Defective Born on the Fourth of July!?!

I bought Born on the Fourth of July back in 1998 and it played just fine. I tried playing it again recently and my Panasonic A-310, Toshiba and Samsung machines will not read the disc! What's up?

BTW, I've e-mailed Universal - no response. Is there a number I can phone?

Help please.

I'm assuming you tried cleaning first just in case?

I'm picky...

This disc is as good as new. I take care when handling my DVDs. BTW, my proper handling of the discs is exactly why the "trouble" is so weird.

Of course, I do appreciate your response. Few seem to care.

This happened to me on one of my Disney discs (Rescuers Down Under); no problem the first couple of times I played it, but a year later it gradually degraded with each attempted play. The disc surface was mint. Disney customer support was awesome and replaced it post haste.

I've contacted Universal...

They asked me to mail the disc to them. They also asked about my player and the condition of the disc. I told them which brand player I own and that the disc looked "normal." I should know what's up in about a month or so.

I had a few Universal discs that wouldn´t play as well, and I just shipped them of to Universal and got new ones no problem at all...and I live in Denmark, and it took about a month and a half, so if you live in the US, it shouldn´t take too long

I got my replacement disc.

Yeah! However, I don't remember this much edge enhancement and artifacting. The picture was nearly unwatchable! Universal sent the newer 2000 version w/commentary. I sure hope they remaster this baby soon. I'll buy it again if the picture quality is "fixed."
