Hitichi vs Panasonic?!?!

I have the chance to buy a new HDTV Widescreen TV (in the 50 inch range also). My problem is, I'm not sure what to get? A Hitachi UltraVision or one from the Panasonic line up? Can anyone give me opinions / reviews / experiences with either sets? I just know I don't want a Sony after what I just went thru with my current Sony.

Why only from those two brands. What about Pioneer, Mits or Toshiba? I agree to stay away from Sony RPTVs but any of the above in addition to the two you mentioned would be worth looking at. Before recommending any model we would need to know more about your viewing habits and feature needs.

I agree with the above poster...if you're going to invest, I think Pioneer and Mitsubishi offer a better product. I own a Mitsubishi widesrcreen, and it's fantastic for both HDTV and DVD watching.

Plus you can tweak the &*$&*^@% out of a Mitsu with just a calibration dvd and hometheaterspot tweaks (with membership). And a bit of reading. My 65" is linear and calibrated and converged end to end. Jaws were dropping over last week's HD footbal playoffs, and will be again for SBXXXVIII in 3 days!

I only listed the two brands, because at the Circut City I go to, they only stock Sony, IT and Panasonic. See, I had the "yellow" problem with my Sony RPTV, they agree'd to replace it , as long as I come out there and pick one up. Didn't see any Mitsu or Pioneer's.

Will take that advice into account.
Thanks a lot.

You can tweak the hell out of Hitachi Models S, T, and X, I believe.

I ordered a 57" Hitachi T this week - can't wait for it to get here.

Yep, the Hitachi is awsome and just as tweakable as the Mits. I've been tweaking my 51" Hitachi 51S700 lately and the picture quality is much better than I thought it would be. I got the TV almost exclusively for movie watching. My DVD player is a Denon DVD-2200.

I'd definitely choose Hitachi if you are stuck between it and a Panasonic.

Yep, I bought a template and got the geometry perfect keeping the overscan in factory spec at about 5% on the sides and 4.5% top and bottom. I did a DCAM convergence in the service menu, mechanical and electrostatic focus, some edge enhancement/ghosting tweaks in the service menu, fixed red push, and fixed the color decoder. The only thing I haven't done is have my greyscale calibrated, I still don't know if I'm going to have that done or not.
