Cabin Fever? Good blind buy?
I'm a fan of the survival horror genre, and this seemed like a good movie. Is it a good blind buy? If it helps, I'm a fan of Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm St., zombie movies etc....Thanks

I'll cast a vote on the side of Cabin Fever
Not necessarily a genuinely scary film, it is a horror film nonetheless. It has quite bit of blood, some weird humor, and a properly dark tone.
Man, I looooved that movie...
Here's my review, if you're bored:

From another thread:
Cabin Fever was one of my favorites from last year and pretty much an essential DVD purchase. Not a good blind buy, though. There are definitely two camps with this one: love it or hate it; I've never heard anyone say they just "kind of" liked Cabin Fever.

Not a bad movie, just really campy and corney. I enjoyed the campy humor and the fitting ending. Its not really a horror movie but more of how people react in extreme situations.

I loved the movie, thought it was a great horror movie. But I tend to define horror movies differently than others.
To me horror movies do not have to be scary, and even ones that people find scary, do not frighten me. I would consider Army of Darkness and Dead Alive, as well as the Shining and the Ring as horror flicks. So I guess I would define the horror genre as dealing with people put in a dire situation trying to escape that usually leads to death (usually murder) and gore. So horror films don't depend on tone to me. They can be serious or funny.

Hey Buckee, I'll take it off your hands. I love this movie. Watched it twice since I rented it. The special features are great as well. I'd probably recommed renting it first, unless you know something about it, or find it for a decent price.

LOVED IT!
Cabin Fever was one of my favorite movies from 2003. Cerina Vincent ruled!!! Couldn't wait for the DVD to come out.
If you liked the EVIL DEAD movies, I'd say buy CF blind. They're similar in tone. If you didn't like or see ED, definitely rent it.

I almost recommend the disc more than the movie. Both are good, gory fun. In fact, Cabin Fever leads my latest column. And yes, Patman, I include a frame grab of Ms. Vincent's Texas Chainsaw strut. Merely as a public service dontcha know.

I'm in the "rent it" crowd.
I had this recommended to me multiple times, saw it, thought it was 'eh'.
It's definitely watchable, but I agree with Ebert on this one... it had a really strange tone to it and didn't know what to do with the locals. They seem to be included for comic relief. Yet -- strangely -- they aren't really funny. The movie comes to a screeching halt any time that damn deputy comes on the screen.
Anyway, definitely give it a look see. But I wouldn't drop any $heckles for it.

Blind buy? If you're intending to place it along with 8 1/2, Seven Samurai and Rules of the Game, then its absolutely not a blind buy. If you're not intending to, then its still absolutely not a blind buy.

Cabin Fever
To me, this was only a so-so flick. I rented it, and wasn't able to get through all the extras. Can you say 5 commentaries??
If you want to see Cory's friend from Boy meets World using the F word, and the rest of the cast using it about 75 times, this is the movie for you.

This a great horror movie. I can't believe the budget was only $1.5 million. Cabin Fever is filled with a great mix of tension and humor from beginning to end. And it all works perfectly. I also loved all the little nods to other horror films that this movie is filled with. I highly recommend this DVD to all horror fans. I can't wait to see what director Eli Roth does next.
