Mits Ws-48413

Received this telivision this past Saturday, PQ is fantastic. I have one question though, there seems to be a slight distortion where people appear shorter and stockier than normal. This is my first wide screen telivision not sure if this is normal or not. Has anyone else experienced this?

The two movies in particular that I noticed this was "Out of Time" and Once Upon a Time in Mexico.

First, make sure your DVD player is set to output 16x9 images. It is probably under something like "Display type" in the setup menus. Also make sure the TV is set to display in 16x9 standard mode, not stretched, zoomed or 4x3 modes.

If all of those are correct, take a look at your convergence grid. I'm not familiar with your Mits since I have a Hitachi. You could also bring up some type of crosshatch pattern from Avia or Digital Video Essentials. Make sure the pattern is square with minimal distortion. If it is distorted in a certain area then you have a geometry problem. Geometry is fixable but can be a pain to do.

Geometry fixing isn't that hard. Of course you gotta join hometheaterspot and look up the tweaks first! Apart from entering a few codes, it is just like the advanced (64-point) convergence adjustments, except you move the standard green grid to linearize things.

Definitely check out AVIA or DVE (I find Avia easier to use and calibrate with, as they have 'moving' test patterns as opposed to static ones.) And htspot will have all the info you need. You'll be surprised how much better you can get your set looking! (I assume you turned the contrast down to a bit below 50% already?)

Thanks for all the help. It ended up me not being too smart. Come to find out there is an adjustment on the output of dvd player. I set it from normal to 16:9 and everything else much to my delight fell into place. This tv rocks, thanks for your help.
