So the mail comes today and there's my Entertainment Weekly sitting in the pile, with none other than Halle Berry dressed in a cat suit placed squarely on the cover. And I just wanted to barf. I mean, I have nothing against her really unlike a lot of folks, but man does she look stupid. Why couldn't they just get michelle pfeifer back :(

Isn't Michelle Pfeiffer a little old for the role? Although, I agree with you that Halle Berry doesn't seem right to be Catwoman.

I just saw that cover on the EW web site; I'll probably get my issue in the mail tonight. Ye gods! I love EW usually but out of all the cool movies coming out in 2004 couldn't they have picked a less, I don't know, suck-tacular one? Then again they might be smart, it's certainly a way to get people to read it and see just how awful this movie really is going to be.

It's small but gets the point across.

Good grief... I'd rather watch Garfield.

Do the math.

Catwoman = DC Comics = Time Warner = EW

Who was it exactly that designed the Catwoman suit, and what did this person do BEFORE they got the labotomy?

See Time Warner really is an equal Opportunity Employer.

What's even more amusing is the magazine ripped Halle Berry for how terrible she looked right after the pics were leaked with her in full costume.

I miss when Halle Berry used to bother acting (look at Losing Isaiah if you don't believe me). She's made a sad mockery of her former self. And, didn't she say the only reason she was in a comicbook basedmovie (regarding X-Men/X2) was becauseit was the only role offered to her because she's black? Well then if she does, erroniously (*cough*Christopher Reeve*cough*) believe this to be true, shouldn't she have felt insulted when she was offered this role?

 No, what I'm saying is there are plenty of white actors (Christopher Reeve being a prime example) that got comic book roles so her getting offered Storm was not because the studio was looking down upon her (as she insinuated) because she was black. Hell, lot's white actors get rejected for comic book roles (the studio didn't even want Christopher Reeve for Superman) so her claiming that she got such a role due to racism is ridiculous.

Now you understand what I was getting at?

necros
01-16-04, 05:53 PM
Well Storm is black in the comic, isn't she?

RocShemp
01-16-04, 06:08 PM
Yes but her insinuation was not regarding the character's ethnic background but that it was a comic book character at all is what had offended her (not enough, it seems, for her to reject the paycheck that came along with said role). Besides, Kingpin is white in the comics but Michael Clark Duncan was able toland the role (and, unlike a vocal many, I hadno problem with this since I felt he fit the role perfectly).

I just felt that insinuation on Halle's part was childish and an excuse not to do as well as she's capable of (yes, I do believe she's a good actress when she wants to be).

Eh I'll wait for the preview to really judge this film. While Halle does look ridiculous in that costume, the director does have a unique visual sense and might be able to make that look good set against certain backdrops.

On the other hand, this movie stars Halle Berry and Sharon Stone.

It doesn't look like Halle in that costume.
Her eyes look different.
It's not that Halle got the part that bothers me it's that chessy costume.
Looks like something like another superhero movie that went straight to video called THE SCORPION.
Catwoman looks to be this year's Hulk where it's getting bad fan reaction before the movie opens.

Either she lost a bet or she signed on based on a pitch that was much more promising than the finished product and it was too late to turn back once she realized how crappy it'd be.

Put me in as someone else who would rather see Michelle Pfeiffer (who still looks great) in that role, with the costume from Batman Returns. I don't have a problem with Halle Barry (although she says some stupid things and plays the race card far too often), but that suit looks like it was designed for some horny guy's student film, and was sewn together by his mother. All I can say is, I hope Warner Bros. releases a special edition of Batman Returns to capitalize on Catwoman, so I can buy that and stay at home watching Michelle Pfieffer pour milk on herself over and over, while I imagine a world where the Halle Barry Catwoman does not exist.

Well, if there's one good thing that'll come out of this disaster known as "Catwoman", it's that it'll likely kill WB's desire to make anymore comic book films which should mean the McG/Abrams Superman project will never see the light of day.

What the hell is it with WB and their inability to make a halfway decent superhero flick?! Even their sister studio, New Line, has produced a successful franchise like Blade. WB has tons of great DC Comics properties and they squander every one of them.

I'm surprised she isn't relating this role to race as well.

You know, bringing the character back to where Ertha Kitt played it.

Well, I agree that many of Warner's decisions have been atrocious regarding comic book properties, but I do have to give them props for their move on the Batman series. Their choices on THAT film have been quite good. And with Catwoman...well, at least they treid to hire an interesting director. That's the one thing I'm holding out on (though really, he's more a visual stylist than a good director...since he hasn't directed much).

A little prayer I say when I hear this news:
Why oh Why Lord do you torture us with the fact that this schmuck is even given consideration to direct bad scripts. Don't let him direct Superman. Please let him fall off a motorcycle doing a hundred miles an hour, off the top of a high cliff and into the path of an oncoming bullet train while getting struck by lightning and being shot at with gold plated Desert Eagles at the same time in super duper slow motion from 4 different angles. It would be more believable (and satisfactory) than the crap he puts on film. Oh and please give us world peace too. Amen.

I just don't see how Halle Berry can carry a whole movie by herself. Her Jinx Johnson character in Die Another Day wasn't very good and I'm glad they got smart and canceled the Jinx movie. Thumbs down already.

I actually read the accompanying article in EW. It said something to the effect that this is a NEW Catwoman and has nothing to do with the old Catwoman character from Batman. Different Name, different reason for turning into super heroine, and worst of all...

...She has super Powers! Powers of course related to that of a cat, I dont know, does that mean she always lands on her feet?
If it is supposed to be a different character, than why not call it something else?! Accept for the obvious name recognition, this is just gonna draw far more criticism than anything else. There has to be a million different things they could have called this.

Ugh! this sucks beyond belief. Well, that is $8.75 x 2 that Warner wont get from me.

I love when movies like this get made. It's hard to imagine the complete stupidity of the people involved. Actually it's not hard but a lot of fun. How does something like this get created? Who thought this was a good idea? I can see one person making such a mistake but there are so many people involved in making a movie how does this get by all of them. It's hilarious to think about.

Yet they're more than happy to capitalize on the familiar name. If they were going to scrap everything they should have justed called it "Felina" or something.

The costume is terrible in so many ways. It's too silly to be sexy, yet it's also completely impractical as a hero's outfit.

the article distances itself from the Batman Catwoman, its her OWN catwoman.

This is going to be a 70 million dollar dud. This is the best DC can do?

Indeed. This isn't the Catwoman from Batman, infact it has nothing to do with that Catwoman according to reports. From my understanding, in this version there is various Catwomen (lending to sequels), with certain "powers" and crappy outfits...

Whoever designed the oufit and logo needs to be be-headed.

I was reading an article in Maxim last night...its an interview with David Carradine...they ask him about why there wasnt a Kung Fu movie...he says because WB is incredibly stupid! He said that their just retarded and you cant get them to listen to any good ideas...

just caught the clip on one of those entertainemnt shows.
the costume looks as ridiculous as we already knew, but the headpiece didn't look that bad.
she was cracking a whip and she came off like a total drip when she "meowed".
she came off just bad in general.

but hey, she's the biggest name on the marquee with this one, and not relegated to a mere supporting role, so she should be happy.
da bling bling is in how many lines you have, not in what you have to say.
