I need more horror

I'm looking to expand my collection of horror movies. I'm not interested in the new crappy horror movies really, but the old ones along the lines of Exorcist and what not.

Anyway, so far I know I need to get The Omen and Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Can anyone recommend some over true horror movies from back in the day. I haven't seen most because they tend to be before my time (before 1982.)

Is the Poltergeist or any of the sequels to any of these movies any good?

Check out Evil Dead series (not really too scary, but really funny and gross), Dawn Of The Dead is the best zombie movie of all time and Day Of The Dead (1985) is worth a viewing as well. Freddy vs Jason is coming out tomorrow and if you haven't seen it yet, it's worth getting. The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre is great, but the sequels (especially Texas Chainsaw Massacre - The Next Generation suck).

Along with the Universal classics (Frankenstein, Dracula, etc...), you might give the Hammer versions
(The Curse of Frankenstein, Horror of Dracula, etc...) a try.

Get Nightmare on Elm Street Boxset...the first nightmare on elm street is probably my favorite horror movie...though, these movies tend to be funnier than scary...the sequels are alright too

Just click on Gutwrencher's collection. That will give you quite the variety of ideas.
It's very impressive to say the least

No one has said Suspiria yet. One of the most beautifully shot films IMO.

Thats because Suspiria is already in his collection...

You definitely must include The Beyond (d. Lucio Fulci) and The Haunting (the original, d. Robert Wise).

I know you said no modern movies, but they're not all bad, you know. Session 9 is a great, scary movie. 28 Days Later is another one I always recommend.

Burnt Offerings is an old favorite of mine. It scared the pants off of me as a kid.

Wow thanks. Lots of stuff there. I forgot to mention a lot of what I have already I guess. Such as the evil dead series, Shining, signs, lambs, etc. Thanks for the suggestions!
