These guys are jerks! I sent in a card to get a free magazine to try a subscription. I thought the demo disc sucked so I didn't pay the bill they sent me. I never received another magazine from them. Then they send me a bill saying they're going to turn it over to a collection agency. That made me mad so then I was determined not to pay it. Now I have a bill from a collection agency.
I've had subscriptions to dozens of magazines before and never been treated like this. Anyone else had this experience? Don't send in for there free issue offer or you'll be in the same boat as I am.

Give them a call and explain the situation. Usually, with those free deals you have to call them or right them and tell them you don't want to subscribe other wise you get a bill.
Just call them up, tell them you didn't like it, and haven't received any further issues. That will probably take care of it.
If not, call your appropriate state office or the better business bureau.

ok, i sort of had a similar situation.
i got a collection letter which was kind of intimidating (the bastards) for Saveur magazine which i hadn't subscribed to for like 10 years. i called saveur first, and they said i was subscribing to which i said, um, no. so they took me off the list.
i then had to call the collection company, and i think it was automated, and tell them that i don't subscribe to the magazine.
still, it left a bad taste in my mouth about it.

When they send you magazine with the bill, and you dont like the mag you're supposed to mark "cancel" on the outside of the envelope. Don't even open the bill just send the letter back as if to say "rejected-return to sender". I've done this a ton of times with other free subs and trial offers and it always works.

Exactly. Whenever I have tried a magazine and did not want to do the subscription, I have always sent back the bill and marked it "CANCEL." I have never had a problem.
If I am not mistaken, most magazines usually request (or require) you to do it that way when you agree to get trial issues from them.

Tell them to prove that you were the one who subscribed and not some kid doing it as a prank... they will back down.

I don't care for the magazine at all. The discs are the only reason I get it, but I don' think I'll be renewing.
