  • Lone Star - John Sayles' best. Great story/themes and a twist I couldn't have guessed. 8/10.

    Tuesday
  • The Boxer - Great job by Daniel Day Lewis. 7/10.
  • Sunshine State - Very Altmanesque, only not so good. 5/10.
  • The Last Samurai - Tom Cruise's best superhero role. 6/10.
  • Cold Mountain - Great cast. The plot is cliche but the characters are realistic. 7/10

    Wednesday
  • The Purified - About the Dogme '95 movement. 5/10.
  • Hoosiers - Very cliche but maybe because of so many imitators? 5/10.
  • Yellow Earth - Beautiful film from Chen Kaige and Zhang Yimou. 7/10.

    Thursday
  • Gate of Hell - Didn't age well for me. 6/10.
  • Conspiracy - Chillingly and well acted. 7/10.
  • Fire - Deepa Mehta's anti-male melodrama. 4/10.

    Friday
  • The 47 Ronin Pt. 1 - My introduction to Mizoguchi. (Must see pt. 2 to make fair judgement.)
  • Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence - 'Bridge on the River Kwai' meets 'Taboo'. 4/10
  • Little Voice - Funny yet unsatisfying. 5/10.

    Saturday
  • The Tin Star - Henry Fonda schools Anthony Perkins. 6/10.
  • FOOTBALL!

    Sunday
  • More FOOTBALL!

This week/weekend I can't wait to get time to watch the long awaited DVD of "The Postman Always Rings Twice" (my online vote many months ago at TCM finally paid off) and the double feature of "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" both released by Warner this week. I'll also watch more of the "Coupling Season 2" episodes off and on during the week and start into the new "Frasier Season 2" and "Cheers Season 2" sets.

I've heard that the restoration on "Postman Always Rings Twice" has some flaws, which I'm disappointed to find out, but I'll still like to watch it and see the bonus features. Looking forward to the commentary on Jekyll & Hyde, too; I saw the first half of this pre-code feature a while back, and I am anxious to see the whole film through and learn more about it.
