Universal, DirecTV Discuss Uncensored Music Channel
http://tv.zap2it.com/tveditorial/tve...473|1|,00.html
(Friday, January 02 02:00 PM)
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Universal Music Group, hoping to find a new way to promote its product in the face of falling album sales, is considering launching a music-video network.
The conglomerate -- which is not part of Vivendi Universal Entertainment's merger with MTV -- would differentiate its channel from the MTVs and Fuses of the world by playing uncensored songs, the Los Angeles Times reports. Universal is talking with satellite-TV provider DirecTV about launching the channel.
Representatives from both companies are keeping quiet.
The new channel would be called 1 AM, shorthand for the First Amendment, in keeping with the idea of not bleeping out any lyrics or blurring any images in its videos. One of its partners in the deal is Vivid Entertainment, a major player in the porn industry.
Universal and Vivid would each have a 45-percent stake in 1 AM, the paper reports, with talent agency Endeavor and Shady Records, a Universal label run by rap star Eminem, each getting 5 percent.
Should it go forward, 1 AM would be available only as a premium channel, similar to HBO or Showtime. Universal hopes to have 1 AM launched by the summer.

I'd certainly be interested in such a channel... I don't know how well an all hip-hop/urban channel, which I would assume this to be, could do though?

I was interested until they said it would be a subscription channel. If it comes with my Premium package now then it's great, but I'm not going over 87.99 a month for a music channel.

Other than that, I'm all for it. But how about instead we loosen up our rediculous broadcasting standards and just play all videos uncensored on regular MTV.

One of the worst censors I've heard on MTV was for a Tom Petty video.
Original: "So let's get to the point, let's roll another joint."
MTV: "So let's get to the point, let's roll another note."
The allow the explotation of women in rap videos, yet saying "joint" is bad?
I haven't watched MTV in years, so maybe they've relaxed some, but I doubt it.

At least that's how I understand it. I don't believe the FCC has any control over cable channels.

I always remember it being on MTV as
"lets roll another NOW"
but it could very well have been "NOTE"
MTV...well MTV2 had a show on not that long ago where they showed a bunch of videos uncut...including "Rabbit in your Headlights"*
*This is the one with the crazy homeless dude being hit by the cars, right?
