Jennifer Connelly and piers to the ocean

Maybe this is just a coincidence, and I'm sure I can't be the only person to notice this. Anyway, what's up with Jennifer Connelly and long shots of her standing at the end of a pier?

I have by no means seen all of her films (most of her recent work, little of her earlier work), but I can recall similar shots/situations in three films:

Dark City
Requiem for a Dream
House of Sand and Fog

So what do you think? Just a coincidence, or...what?

It's in her contract

Too bad she doesn't have a "I must gain more weight and look healthy like I use to" clause in her contract.

When I saw House of Sand and Fog (which I loved) I couldn't believe my eyes when they did the pier scene. If I were her I would tell the director, "No, I'm not doing it. Haven't you seen my other films? I've done this twice before. It's getting to be a JC cliche!"

She looked amazing in House of Sand and Fog, especially in her cutoffs.

I think her agent is starting to send her scripts based solely on whether or not it involves the main character standing on a pier near or at the end. I was hoping for one of those scenes in Hulk, but it was not to be.

Maybe they hope she'll take a long walk off a short pier?

I haven't seen House of Sand and Fog and even I thought it was an odd coincidence after seeing Dark City and Requiem for a Dream.

I saw Dark City and Requiem for a Dream. Her scenes at the piers are great. Hope to see more of that!

You don't remember the "ass to ass" puppets in Labyrinth?

I agree with the posters talking about her being to skinny now. It is quite sad, she was one of the most beautiful actresses (and still is high up there), but she has gotten way too skinny for my tastes. I really wish things would change in Hollywood the vast majority of actresses are quite sickly looking.

The way Jennifer looked in cutoff jeans was just fine with me. She's just at the right weight for her in this new film of hers.

She's not supposed to be portly in House of Sand and Fog. Her slight frame adds a sense of desperation, in my opinion.

I just noticed this coincidence last night when viewing both House andRequiem yesterday. I had already seen Dark City before and recalled that most memorable pier scene from that movie as well. Any others out there? It is starting to become a J.C. cliche now.

Maybe that's because they are sick.

I just saw this movie and....

Too bad she doesn't have a "I must gain more weight and look healthy like I use to" clause in her contract.
Uh...WHAT???? No, after seeing this movie I don't think Jen needs to gain any more weight. It's obvious she has gained a lot of weight since the oscars in 2002.

No matter how much weight jen gains, some of you will never let her escape her 2002 Oscar appearance.

I just looked at some recent pictures. She needs to gain even more.

I think her 'gazing eyes' has something to do with how well this shot works for directors. There are a LOT of similar shots for different actor in their different roles. Harrison Ford, Tom Cruise, Julia Roberts - they all have certain things they do in all of their films, b/c it seems to work well ---
