EZ-D at Amazon.com

The reign of DIVX is coming back to haunt us as EZ-D, Disney's self-distructing DVDs, are now available for pre-order at amazon.com.
Amazon.com's Current EZ-D titles
I really hope no one is stupid enough to buy this crap.

Your link doesn't work! Let me try to help you:

Yeah, I am disappointed to see that Amazon would be foolish enough to enter into this market! I don't expect that they will be in it for very long though. Probably THE MOUSE (through Buena Vista) is paying them to sell the stupid things!

And, the price - selling them at the full list price of $6.99 just so somebody will not have to return something to the rental shop. DUH!!

Hmmm, after posting and clicking on my link - it too doesn't work!!
Well, here is the page, if you want to copy & paste it into a new browser window!
amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-form/ref=dp_sr_00/103-6208898-7510216

S**t, even that doesn't work - is this link working for anybody else?

Why not just buy the regular dvd. Looking through the ones they have listed on Amazon it looks like many of them are only a few dollars more for a normal version.

Just search for "EZ-D" in the DVD category to get the list. I think Netflix is a much better route at those prices (STL, if it works, would only get you .70 off, too). I might think it would be nice as a freebie for a large DVD order (like the "24" Season 2 2-episode disc I got).

The list contained the below when I looked:

1. Serendipity Ez-D (2000) DVD
~ John Cusack

Not yet released
List Price: $6.99
Buy new: $6.99

2. High Fidelity Ez-D (2000) DVD
~ John Cusack

Not yet released
List Price: $6.99
Buy new: $6.99

3. Bad Company Ez-D (2002) DVD
~ Anthony Hopkins

Not yet released
List Price: $6.99
Buy new: $6.99

4. Gangs of New York Ez-D (2002) DVD
~ Leonardo DiCaprio

Not yet released
List Price: $6.99
Buy new: $6.99

5. Reign of Fire Ez-D (2002) DVD
~ Christian Bale

Not yet released
List Price: $6.99
Buy new: $6.99

6. Scary Movie 2 Ez-D (2001) DVD
~ Anna Faris

Not yet released
List Price: $6.99
Buy new: $6.99

7. Gone in Sixty Seconds Ez-D (2000) DVD
~ Nicolas Cage

Not yet released
List Price: $6.99
Buy new: $6.99

8. Freaky Friday Ez-D (2003) DVD
~ Jamie Lee Curtis

Not yet released

It's a disposable DVD. Once you open the package, it's playable for two days, after which a chemical reaction occurs in the disc and it becomes unreadable.

Disney thought this'd do better than rentals.

They were wrong.

Look up "Disposable DVDs" on this site. It's hilarious.

I'm gonna buy "Gone in 60 Seconds" for my dead format collection. I'll put it right next to my DIVX discs of Armageddon, 48 Hrs. (get it?) and Tomorrow Never Dies.

They could have at least made them interesting and have them explode after 48 hours.

Isn't the whole point of EZ-D to be an impulse item that you don't have to return for people who ususually rent titles?

While I don't think the extra $3 will be enough incentive to warrant not making that return trip to the video store, how in the world do they expect to market a movie that costs that much (not to mention shipping!) that people not only get to watch for only two days, but for which they also have to wait a week or so.

Still, I may pick up one of these just to have a collector's item.

And to try out my power sander on the bottom to wear away that thin layer of chemical-infused plastic.
