Here's a weird one. My Zenith DVD player will play the movie DVDs for LOTR Two Towers Extended edition but it will not play either of the special feature dvds which came with the movie. I did not have this problem with LOTR Fellowship special feature DVDs last year. I CAN get the TT Special feature dvds to play on my computer though. So I don't think there is anything wrong with the actual dvds. Zenith-5 disk player-(black)-2yrs? old. Are there any software/firmware upgrades available for Zenith players which might help? I must fixes my preciousssssss.

It sounds like a classic DVD Disc-DVD player incompatibility issue. You can try to exchange the DVD's and see if that works and also try the DVD's in another stand alone DVD player to verify whether the DVD's are in fact bad or not. DVD-ROM's do a much better job of dealing with defective DVD's (error correction etc.)then stand alone ones do so even though the DVD's play in your DVD-ROM drive doesn't mean their OK.

I called Zenith's support line and they asked for the serial number on my dvd player. They told me that the software was bad on this model. They are sending me AN RMA package so I can return it and have it fixed, no questions asked. Thanks for the reply though.
