My g/f buys me their 811 HD receiver 2 weeks ago, and D* sets up an installation date of 12/29 (tomorrow). After reading of 811 shortages in the AVS forums i ask the CSR (on two occasions) if they had any receivers in stock. The guy reassures me that they in fact do, and not to worry about them running out of units, so i read him my CC# and am charged $199.
So today, a week after being charged for the 811, and moving my 7' long entertainment center, i get a call saying that my installation will be re-scheduled to 1/19.
A call to D* reveals that they knew they were out of 811 weeks ago, but to still charge customers the $200 anyway.
So if you're planning on buying an 811 receiver form D* in the near future, just be ready to have it installed at the end of January.
Right now i'm exploring my options in HDTV programming from Direct TV or even Charter cable.
