How much $money$ did you spend on DVDs in 2003?
I spent $1,200 (incl. tax) this year passing the 100 title mark.
Up from $316 last year in 2002 which was up from $80 in 2001 when I entered the DVD craze!
I expect to spend less in 2004.
You guys?

Couldn't tell you.. but I have created an Excel spreadsheet to log such information for 2004. I have about 170 DVDs since 1999. I plan to sell maybe 30-50 of them, and will be focusing on buying less this year.
I love movies, and I love DVDs.. but it seems I sometimes get caught up in buying more than anything and plenty of DVDs I watch once or not yet. Some (like Finding Nemo) I watch multiple times!! My plan is to stick to the flicks I know I'll be watching more than once on disc.

Went from under ten in 2002 to 110+ in 2003. Way too much was spent.
I hope to spend much, much less this year. I'm going to stay away from TV shows that still air in syndication that I am home to watch, and TV shows that aren't able to have one episode thrown in at a time and be understood in context (Shows like Law and Order where one episode doesn't have back stories like an episode of 24 would have).
That, and I won't do blind buys as much this year as last year. Too often in 2003, I bought a DVD just because of the sale.

I'm planning to cut down, and be more selective, so it should be less next year.

I don't know the total for the year... couldn't even venture a relatively accurate guess... I do know that there were two or three months when I spent in the neighborhood of $1,000 for the month on DVDs.

Interestingly, of the $2700 or so I spent this year, over half was on TV shows.
Well, it was interesting to me.

probably a little less than what RobCA spent.
there were a lot of spur of the moment DDD orders throughout the year at $20-40, and then a $450 at the end, and the last few months were generally big with several large boxsets, etc.
about 1/4-1/3 of that was subsidized by selling off old discs i didn't need- maybe even slightly more than that.

Thanks to test drive offers and other store credits I can safely say that I spent ONLY (mind you the only is because of those that have spent what most would consider their child's college fund on DVDs this year) in the neighborhood of $500. I dont keep track of the date in which I purchased a DVD, only the store and method of payment so an exact figure isnt in the cards this year.
Ill add a new column to my list this week to prepare for next year. But since Ill be starting my first year of Law School in the Fall, I do not think Ill come close to even the $500 this last year.

I usally dont keep track since I dont care much....but if I added up every reciept, I guess I average around $500 to $800 monthly...with several 1k months along the way. I'd guess close to 10k for the year. I made about 6,500k in tips so I guess I spent alot of my real money. thats one thing I didnt want to do.
