10. I expected something a little more, you know, hobbity.
9. Middle-earth is clearly shot in Regular Earth.
8. It was too long, and it wasn't a cartoon.
7. I spilled butter on my Twizzlers!
6. My name is Stu- Why can't there be a hobbit named Stu?
5. Where the hell is Chewbacca?
4. If there's magic, why isn't there a rapping kangaroo?
3. I couldn't focus on the movie- I was still mad about losing money on the Giants.
2. Frodo ignored me- He thinks he's All That.
1. I haven't seen it yet, I was too busy governing California.

Just reminds me why I think Dave hit his peak around 1985. Not at all funny, imho.

It has nothing to do with LOTR or fanboys...

Letterman's top 10s are NEVER funny....I thought they weren't even suppose to be funny.

It is my belief that people can be divided in the following groups:

There are smart people, who find Letterman funny

-and-

There are dumb people, who find him not funny at all.

While I don't want to sound like a dick: YES! To say "Letterman isn't my cup of tea" is okay. To say "Letterman has not been funny for 10 years" is just obnoxious.

And, of course, we all know that Conan is the true king of late night. :D

This is true.

Letterman, however, is terrible. He's arrogant, annoying, and his audience kisses his ass the entire show. he can give them one look and they give him a standing O.

NBC has the best late night hosts. no contest. Leno does terrible interviews, but its still overall better than Letterman or Kilborn.

you DO realize that the last Letterman standing ovation was, by design, when he returned from heart surgery, and that Leno has a staged standing ovation when he comes out for the monologue BEFORE EVERY SHOW, right?

don't forget the people that rush the stage to touch him..

Only reason Leno gets higher rating is he gets sometimes better guests than Letterman and old people just seem to continue watching after Carson left. If you say Leno does terrible interviews then you watch for the great monologue (all the late night shows do same basic jokes)? the 5000th edition of Jaywalking (or Iron Jay or whatever else he dressup as that week)? or what?

What can i say? it doesnt bother me.

Letterman's fans kiss his ass SO much. he'll look at the tv, sometimes make a sucking noise with his mouth, and the crowd goes wild. sometimes he'll just chuckle and the crowd loves this too.

i do try to watch Headlines on Leno whenever possible. Leno's monologue IS better written than Conan's (but Conan's got the delivery), and letterman's.

but the main point is just that The Tonight Show is funnier and more entertaining than the Late Show.

You have got to be kidding. If I taped the conversations me and my college buddies have when we hang out they would be ten times funnier than the Tonight Show. Leno is the absolute worst talk show host on the air bar none. He lacks any kind of comedic timing, his monologues are always so friggin lame and boring and his interviewing skills are horrible. He's the perfect ass-kissing, safe, predictable talk-show host for dumb Middle America. The Barry Manilow of American comedy. You will never see him voice any kind of opinion on his show or take a guest to task on a topic (as Conan did recently with FOX's Bill O'Reilly). His banter with that guitar player Kevin Eubanks is always so forced and predictable(Jay makes a stupid joke, Kevin laughs like a wind-up monkey) and for some reason the music performances, especially if it's a rock band or rapper, always sounds so warmed over and weak(I'm guessing a lousy sound system in the studio.) The point is, Jay Leno sucks and it's pathetic that a corporate ass-puppet lapdog like him has a high-profile show on a major network and a truly funny comedian like, say, Chris Rock or Sarah Silverman does not. **** Jay Leno.

Uhhh. Those mannerisms are the reason why they laugh and clap. It's a signature thing. It's just like when Conan laughs heartily and quickly turns it into a stern straight face. Or like when Leno tells an unfunny joke, and Kevin breaks in with a chuckle.

*makes a pucker-fish face at the DVDTalk Crowd*

I would watch a Sarah Silverman everyday of the week! I would even settle if it were on at 2AM.

i live in NYC (letterman's home) but i still find him unfunny. does letterman often voice his opinions? does conan? usually, no. that's not their job. they're not chris matthews or someone on crossfire, just their to tell everyone what they think. and leno does seem to be quiet about his private life, i just dont think he likes talking about himself.

and we're not comparing leno to chris rock, but to letterman. rock is funnier than both. i'm not saying i love leno (like i do conan), but that his show is far better than letterman.

you're very quick to point out jay leno's faults (which, although some may be true to an extent, do not outweigh letterman's), but tell me, what praise would you give to letterman? oh, and please define your 'middle america'?

**** letterman and his field-goal sized gap.
