Why wasn't Viggo Mortensen in the EE commentaries?

Maybe this is common knowledge but I don't know So why wasn't he in it? To someone like myself who enjoys the movies but is not a fanatic, it seems kind of stuck up to the only main character missing from them.

Obviously the way you took it was the opposite of what he probably intended. I think this is due to VM's unusual propensity for not loving to talk about himself, unlike most actors. If you believe the press his nickname around the set was "no ego" Viggo.

Or, maybe he was just busy shooting Hidalgo. Was he on the FOTR:EE commentaries? I can't remember and I'm too lazy to look right now.

He wasn't in ANY commentary. I did hear about No Ego Viggo, but he doesn't have to talk about himself in an aggrandising manner... he could have just said, for example, this scene was hard to shoot because blah blah blah and I imagined this and this to make myself sad for this death scene, and so on and so forth. It's interesting for acting students and people like me who just find it fascinating without being necessarily egotistical.

Well, he is on the appendices, so it's not like he has no presence in the extended editions.

That still brings the question of why he is the ONLY major actor/actress not on the commentaries

Maybe I wasn't the only one who didn't know after all

I heard that he said no to the FOTR commentary and was too busy with Hidalgo for TTT. Don't know if he would've done it though.

Don't know the reason behind his choice, but the man does tend to mumble....
