Dynasty Warriors 5 (PS2)

Samurai Warriors coming to US

Koei confirms that its PS2 tactical action game, known as Sengoku Musou in Japan, will be released in North America under a new title in 2004.

Koei has today confirmed that it will release Sengoku Musou in North America in March next year. The Japanese-themed tactical action game, which is currently in development at Koei's Omega Force studio, will be released under the new title Samurai Warriors.

"Samurai Warriors offers bold new interpretations, not only of Feudal Japan, but also of the tactical action genre," said Amos Ip, vice president of sales and marketing for Koei. "Our development team has taken the techniques they have mastered with the Dynasty Warriors series and combined them with new creative energies to realize an experience filled with refined storytelling, epic battles, and breathtaking visuals."

Samurai Warriors will see players assuming the role of an elite samurai and ninja who, along with a band of similarly skilled characters, embarks on an adventure that will see him fighting on the battlefields of Okehazama and Kawanakajima and inside the embattled walls of Osaka Castle. Weapons available to the player will include katana swords, shuriken, kunai daggers, and a kuzarigama (sickle and chain). Enemies in the game will include gun-toting troops, ninja, and kunoichi (female ninja).

The game will boast a number of new features, including an active mission system (AMS) that triggers random missions during each battle and an auto-formation system (AFS) that randomly generates castle levels and conquest routes to ensure that no two games are the same. Great news, big fan of these games. Even though they don't seem to change much between each installment there is just something great about takin on that many guys at one time. Hopefully they keep the battle mechanics similar.
