Get ready for more ‘pre-movie’ ads
Regal Cinema, the nation’s largest chain, is leading the charge in theatre advertising with a 20-minute pre-show called “the 2wenty.” It’s a mixture of ads, movie trailers and original content from partners including Universal, Turner Broadcasting and NBC. (MSNBC is a Microsoft-NBC joint venture.)
I am so glad I completed my theater and never need to go to a chain theater again!

They've had this thing at one of my UA theater for a while now. It won't be long before commercials are actually interspersed within the movie a'la broadcast TV.

Doesn't work that way.
They still start the previews on the listed starting time for the film.
The 2WENTY starts twenty minutes earlier and runs through. I've gotten to some theaters as much as an hour early (when I knew it would be packed to all hell) and they run through the 2WENTY three times before starting the movie.
It's all crap on there.
The current 2WENTY has some crap about Shaquille O'Neal, those Lid Rock CDs, and a couple other stories I can't remember.
They still start the previews on the listed starting time for the film.

Viewers would be outraged and studios would see a major drop off in box office receipts.
I for one would never step into a theater again if it did.
For preview lovers this sucks. It looks like they are going to intermix the advertisements/commercials with the previews.
I go to maybe 3 or 4 major releases a year so I can stomach the ads, cell phones, talking, etc...
Lately, I love my dedicated HT even more.

Like has been said, this has been at my theaters for about a year now, and they start before the showtime and before the typical trailers before a movie. It's actually not that bad... gives the audience something to watch when they get their early. There have been some interesting ones, such as the information about Hulk and 2 Fast 2 Furious... although the Lid Rock and TNT ones get annoying if you go to the movies a lot.

Yeah the Regal I go to has had this for a while and as long as it is on before the actual start time of the movie I dont care. The main problem is since they dont change it much if you go to alot of movies you start to get tired of seeing the same thing over and over, especially the TNT drama's like " Heart Starter" or "Hard Starter" whatever it is called.

i think they are great, iam always there early to ensure getting a good seat and usualy bored out of my mind waiting for the movie to start, it gives me something to at least listen to while i wait for the movie to start

Hey, they can put as many advertisements before the start time as they want. If it brings in the revenue more power to them. I mean is this really much different? Most theaters already put still picture ads up before the start time. Now it's programming. It's the post start time commercials that bother me. To a certain extent.

I have a Regal near me, it's the only theater I'll go to. I have a few AMC theaters here too, but they all suck.
the 20 starts 20 minutes before the movie time (usually). So if you get there right on time, you don't really see any of it, but they usually have about 10 minutes worth of previews that start at the regular movie time. So, the ads and stuff in the 20 is really just something to watch for the folks that get in there early. It's a vast improvement over the tons of commercials and previews they'd do before and have the movie start almost 20-30 minutes late. Before the 20, all they did before the showtime was just slow ad slides of local businesses.

whats wrong with the 20? its better than what they used to show - local ads (picture ads, not commercials) with lame background music.

This isn't bad. I've enjoyed them when I get to the theater early and since it doesn't add any time and the film starts after the typical previews, it's an improvement. You don't get the non-preview ad's before the trailers anymore when show time has hit. so it gets everything over with before the film's start time.

i acutally don't mind. as long as the movie trailers start at the movie showtime (what we've been used to for years), it's just some filler to keep me occupied.
plus watching a commercial on the big screen.. it's like the difference between watching a movie at home and in the cinema. sort of.

Yeah, it doesn't look like a lot of people responding are reading the other posts. The movies DO start just like they always have. There is nothing bad about this at all.
