How does ice age stack up against the pixar films?

All the pixar films I've seen have been great. Antz and shreik were okay, but I found that they didn't measure up to pixar in terms of story and animation.

Haven't seen ice age yet. How does that compare to the pixar films?

It's OK but the animation of the characters is too plastic looking and it suffers from the "seen that before animated buddy picture" syndrome.

I think this was the least satisfying of all the "new style" animation features - definitely not up to Pixar standards, and no as much fun as Antz or Shrek.

OK, I'm in the minority here, but I thought Ice Age was very, very funny. But then again, I'm not an Antz fan..

Re: How does ice age stack up against the pixar films?

My opinion:

Pixar flicks are up here

Ice Age is down here.

I agree - Ice Age wasn't that great in terms of execution or animation. I didn't find it that funny or original (nowhere NEAR Finding Nemo or Monsters Inc). Oddly I read several articles about the film before it was released which said that an additional character voiced by Kristen Johnston was cut from the story after test audience viewings. The articles all said that a version of the movie including Johnston would be a part of the DVD release. No such luck. I have a feeling I might have liked it better...

I thought it was very close to some of the Pixar movies, but just a little short in terms of story. Of course, i was let down by Finding Nemo after all the hype, so i'd put Ice Age around that level but still below Monster's Inc and the Toy Story movies. Nevertheless, it's still a fun movie.

Far funnier than Finding Nemo IMO. Not as good as the rest of the Pixar movies though.

Pixar films always give me lots of enjoyment and can stand up to multiple viewings. Ice Age had its funny moments ( and was better than Antz) but doesn't have replayability

Pixar is great but I liked Ice Age a lot too. I liked the art and the story. Yeah it's "just another kid buddy road trip" movie, but practically every other kids movie is too. But, I'd suggest renting it first instead of just buying it

To echo most of the sentiments here, you can't compare Ice Age to a Pixar production. Thus far Pixar's films have had fantastic storylines (Nemo was not quite up-to-standard, IMO) and visuals. Ice Age didn't really deliver very well on either front.

I liked the movie, but I can't put it in the same class as a Pixar film.

I liked it just as much as Monsters, Inc. or Finding Nemo (I guess I just don't find these as enjoyable as most people do). But I do think Toy Story is better.

So, yeah, I'd say it's enjoyable enough.

The only thing I really enjoyed in Ice Age was the opening with Scrat.

I also really liked Ice Age.

I think it is was not quite up to Pixar standards although it is a very good film.

Ice Age was also done for a fraction of the budget of both Shrek and the bulk of the Pixar film, but was one of the top-grossing films of its year. Plus, it was made with a third of the manpower of those previous films.

Ice Age must have some staying power, considering its still getting a lot of threads around here, and it's a two-year old movie.

IMO

1. Nemo
2. Ice Age
3. Shrek
4. Toy Story
5. Monsters Inc (not a fan at all).

I loved Ice Age....really, really...if it wasn't for Ellen Degeneres, I would place it above Nemo.

Look, we all know Pixar has aimed and successfully made pictures with quality. Ice Age for me was nothing put pure 2-D trash writing made into 3-D visuals. For me, Toy Story 2 rules, though Finding Nemo is surprisingly hysterical. But Toy Story 1 is a cold fart I wish not to smell twice, you know? Haven't seen A Bug's Life. And how dare you say Shrek was okay, when it was just plain amazingly fun??!

Finding Nemo was not for the children, it's for adults w/ issues and dark humor. The parents must've dragged their kids to see it multiple times to get the enormous box office. I mean, seriously, your mom gets brutally murdered and eaten by a freaking barracouta, along w/ hundreds of your siblings before you even hatched? And to top that off, you're a crippled clown fish who gets kidnapped by some giant alien while you're on a freaking field trip. Right, real funny. I bet all the kids who watched this movie wanted to be a crippled, who gets taken by some child molester while they're sleeping at night.

Now, regarding Ice Age, I thought it was quite funny. Funnier than Finding Nemo to say the least, but not as funny as Shrek. I don't know, most Pixar films are just too dark for children to understand, and are more suitable for adults.

Anyway, if you're looking for something light hearted, Ice Age is not bad at all.
