Thanks Black Isle, your games rocked. Fallout and Torment will always be some of my most memorable gaming experiences. It's sad that Van Buren aka Fallout 3 won't be seeing the light of day.

Eh, Looking Glass went the same way and Ion Storm picked up Thief III, so I'd say Fallout 3 will probably be picked up by someone else.
Hopefully.
Also, while Fallout and Planescape Torment were great games, you left out Black Isle's greatest accomplishment: Baldur's Gate.

Holy shit. That really sucks.

Bioware had more to do with the actual development of Baldur's Gate than Black Isle.

Maybe so, but Black Isle was a big part of it.

Also, I forgot to mention Icewind Dale.

Damn that sucks. But considering a bunch of the Black Isle team had left, i can see why. Go give Troika Games the Fallout property :)

I wonder why Ion Storm doesn't pick up Fallout...or even Bioware.

I loved BG and Icewind Dale so I am sad to see them go. Although I heard they were not going to make more BG games for the PC anyway.
I need my RPG fix :)

Black Isle also gave us Planescape Torment, another classic RPG. This is definitely sad to hear. :(

I'm pretty sure that Fallout 3 and Bulders gate DA 2 aren't gone.. i think they've just been pushed back a little longer

BGDA2 shouldn't be affected, but the entire Fallout 3 team was laid off.
The word is Interplay is moving totally away from the PC and going strictly console. Plans are to make a sequel to Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel even though the first one hasn't shipped yet.

You're thinking of Fallout: Brotherhood of the Steel. Fallout 3 would've been a true sequel to the RPG series will Fallout : BoS is more like Super Mario Brothers.

Fallout: BoS looks like a horrible way to truely kill off a once great series. Everything I have seen and heard about it just sounds terrible.

I was looking forward to BoS. But then again, I am always craving new material from good franchises.

Looks really cool, sucks that it seems it has been totally cancelled. Hopefully something will change.

Wow, that petition is so horrible I am hesitant on signing it.
Not like it would make much difference probably...but still.
"To: Interplay
I don't speak good english, so this petition will be short.
We want to restore the Black Isle Studios and continue the Van Buren Project also known as Fallout 3. Don't do another poor game for PS2 or Xbox. Fallout was created for PC and we want a new part of this american, post-apocalypse history...
I hope this will be the best part...
Sincerely,
The Undersigned "

Online petitions are the voice of the people. The only way anything every changes in this country, be it restoring foreign films with the original language audio track, getting complete season sets of obscure 70's cop shows on DVD or making FOX revive your favorite TV show from cancellation is through the use of ONLINE PETITIONS....
CEO Herve Caen says his company will publish the postnuclear RPG, hints it is farming out development.
Following yesterday's conference call with investors, Interplay CEO Herve Caen casually dropped a bombshell. "We're planning to publish Fallout 3," he bluntly told an analyst who was inquiring about the PC role-playing game sequel.
The news came as a shock, given that the game community had all but dug Fallout 3's plot in the game graveyard. The bad news started last year when a series of prominent persons, including Feargus Urquhart and JE Sawyer, left Fallout 3's developer, Black Isle Studios.
The departures sparked rumors of problems behind the scenes at Black Isle, Interplay's internal role-playing game studio. One of its premier projects, Baldur's Gate 3 (code-named "Jefferson") was put on indefinite hold following Interplay's loss of the Dungeons & Dragons license to Atari.
That left Fallout 3, the next chapter in one of the most widely admired RPG series of all time, as Black Isle's sole project. However, in November, Interplay shut down Black Isle, and sent its entire staff packing. With nobody working on Fallout 3--and its dismissed developers spitting venom--the industry assumed that the game was dead in the water. That is, until today.
Though Caen was uncharacteristically direct about Fallout 3's publishing plans, he was less so about its development. "Fallout 3 is not actively being developed right now," he said, "but we will have an announcement on that front soon, regarding that project."
Later in the session, Caen gave a hint about when that announcement may be. When an analyst asked if it was most likely that Fallout 3 would be developed by an external studio, Caen answered, "Correct."

Fantastic news! Even better that it won't be an internal Interplay studio working on it.

Good news if it actually happens.
I'd like Obsidian Entertainment to do it, since it's made up of a ton of ex-BIS employees. But they probably have their hands full with KOTOR 2.

All I got to say is, it better follow the tradition of 1 and 2 and not go all pg-13 or become multi-player/online or some BS like that. Oh hell no.

I played Planescape Torment to the end and wished the story and adventure would go on forever. Baldur Gate is also an excellent RPG game. Same with Fallout! How can a company that make all those excellent games go under?
