Buy Mitchel. Then get Manos. Then get the 2nd boxset. Then the other 3. Then pick up the rest of the individual titles. Then download the rest of the episodes that arent on dvd.

Out of all the sets, #4 and #3 are my favorites... Overdrawn at the Memory Bank and Space Mutiny are probably my two favorite MST3Ks of all time, and they're both on #4. Of the individual movies, Mitchell and Beginning of the End are my favorite... I still don't know why people like Manos.

But probably the best place to start is www.dapcentral.org. Read their FAQs, then read them again. Learn the apps that they use, and you will have all the MST3K that you can handle.

I have all of the currently available DVDs (minus the movie), and I haven't been impressed by any of the box sets, personally.

My recommendation would be:

Joel - Eegah!
Mike - either Red Zone Cuba or The Wild, Wild World of Batwoman

Although in the "Joel vs. Mike" wars, I'm more squarely in the Joel camp, I think there are more outstanding Mike episodes on DVD than with Joel. I liked Manos the first time I watched it, but I wouldn't recommend it to a new viewer, and it hasn't held up well to repeat viewings for me.
