Cold Mountain

This movie was getting some conversation in the Last Samurai thread...and I did a search and didn't see any specific threads on it.

Anyone else really looking forward to this one? I'll be seeing it the evening of the 26th.

I saw the trailer last night before The Last Samurai. Looks really good.

I am. The cast looks pretty amazing to me and I'm a fan of Anthony Minghella. I know it's an epic and the subject matter will turn a lot of people off, but I think it has the potential to be very good.

I haven't seen the trailer for it yet, but I'd like to see what all the fuss is about.

Although given that it's a Miramax movie released during the holidays, I can guess that it will be Oscar-bait, which automatically raises doubts for me, since I hate Miramax's overblown advertising tactics.

Update: I just downloaded the trailer, and it looks pretty good. The movie is visually stunning, and it's always nice to see the under-rated Jude Law acting his heart out. Nicole Kidman also looks like she will offer a good performance. However, I'll wait until I hear the reviews, since I simply hated Miramax's last Oscar offering, Chicago.

I hated Chicago too....so you're not alone

I'd agree that Jude Law is under-rated also...good call.

No thanks, I'll pass. Can't stand any of the three top-bills. There are alot of other films coming out this season that want my cash.

Hope y'all enjoy it though.

I've read the book, and I can see how it might make a very good movie ... or a total snooze-fest. We will see.

Little to no opinion on the top three, but I'll see it for number four.

I loved the book and have been looking foward to this movie for quite some time. I'll probably see it Christmas night or the day after. Jude Law, Nicole Kidman, Natalie Portman and Philip Seymour Hoffman are some of my favorite actors and actresses which gives me high hopes for the film.

Found this in the trivia section

-As of 2003, this was the most expensive film Miramax has financed on its own, with a budget of about $85 million.

but

-Edited using Apple's "Final Cut Pro 3.0.2" software.

I will watch this movie because I've always thought Jack White should do movies.

I'm looking forward to the movie and even moreso to the soundtrack after reading a bit about in the USA Today a few weeks ago. This movie is easily one of the ones I am most interested in this year.

I love Nicole Kidman and I like Jude Law, but this movie looks godawful boring. The trailer is an eye-roller - the voice over does not help it at all. I am just not getting good vibes from this at all, and I like most of the cast.

I'm sure I'll hate it...I like the cast except for Renee who just annoys the piss outta me to no end recently...and Nicole's southern accent doesnt sound right...just to reiterate...I hated English Patient...and this one looks dull as all hell....

Ah, it's always good to find someone who can see through the Miramax hype machine, too.

And I'd definitely like to see Jude Law in some more movies, yup yup.

I'm afraid of going expecting some great Civil War battle action, and end up getting mostly a sappy love story.

but

Natalie Portman =
