A few bargains at Blockbuster

Until 1/04/04, all previewed movies and games are buy 2 get 1 free.

Their annual gift certificate sale is going on. Buy $50 worth of GCs and get $5 GC free. If you're going to be buying something there anyway, buy the GCs first and get 10% off in effect.

Xbox game: 9 more Holes of Christmas for $4.99. It's like last year's game, but with different courses, and no coupon inside for a free rental.

6' component video cables for $12.99, this is a great price, right?

As always, YMMV, especially with the last item.

I'm always leery of buying used games there for two reasons. One is the conditions of the discs. I don't like to buy them if they're all hacked up, and second is sometimes they put those damn stickers on the disc. Who really wants to have those on their game discs? Not me.

If they don't work return them, they have a 30 day return policy.

I have rented or bought hundreds of used DVDs or games and have had maybe 2 or 3 problem discs.

Edited to clarify that it is component cables on clearance, not composite.

Your mileage definitely will vary on that. My BBVs are generally good about not putting stickers on the discs. I've been very happy with the titles I've bought from them. Pretty much all of them have all the original stuff. I even lucked out and got the original PS2 cases when I picked up Ratchet & Clank and Onimusha 2 last week.

It's too bad my stores never have anything on clearance. Just PVTs.

My experience with blockbusters in Toronto has been that they are terrible for used video games. I went to check out Outlaw volleyball and they were selling it for $49.99 (can$) when you can get it at walmart for $38.99 new.

Worse problem IMO is that you never get the manual.

I wonder if you can ask the publisher for a replacement copy?

Most Blockbusters keep all the manuals in a box in the back. Ask them and they should let you look thru them.

I've even been able to go to Blockbusters besides the one where I bought the game and let me take manuals from either the cases on the racks or the boxes in the back.

And yes, some publishers let you order replacement manuals.

Interesting! May I ask how you convinced them to let you do that?

Last nite I got Soul Calibur 2 for GC (and 2 DVDs) and no manual at BBV.

Wonder if it's worth it to try to get one?

I just asked. Done it several times at several stores.

I've never had them say no, but if they did, I would ask for the manager. After all, we paid for the game, we deserve the manual if they have it in their store/chain.

So has anyone gotten anything yet?

How much was Soul Caliber 2?

I haven't really seen anything yet. It looks like slim pickins' lately.

Soul Calibur 2 was $30 but I also got the Hulk DVD and ST Nemesis DVD for something like $48 out the door. Not the best deal I've ever gotten by far but it was OK.

I picked up Ratchet & Clank, Onimusha 2 & Starfox Adventures about a week or so ago for roughly $36. I'll have to stop buy during lunch on Friday to see what they've got this week.

I saw 9 Holes of X-mas (last year's mini game) on sale at EBGames for $40 or $50!!!!!

That's insane, but I'm gonna pick up a couple of the 9 MORE Holes and hold on to them just in case!

I picked up both grand theft auto 3 and vice city,...our locals are selling those seperately for $20 a piece,...and got outlaw volleyball for free (buy 2 get one free), and the red hot outlaw volleyball expansion for $.99 (buy or rent any 2 games get xbox mini game for $.99). $41 + tax for 4 games. Not a bad deal.
