whats the general thought on Jackie Brown?

I really liked the movie and all but it wasn't as good as pulp fiction or anything. My only main faught with the movie is the language. I thought it was a tad excessive. on some occasions, it was swearing for swearings sake. in pulp, the language kind of flowed with the dialogue, in Jackie, it didn't in a few cases.

Jackie Brown isn't in the same league as Pulp Fiction tone-wise, but I think I like the two of them equally. Jackie Brown is a calm, quiet movie. Whenever someone mentions it, the first scene I think of is Max and Jackie having coffee the night after she got out of prison, listening to her records and talking.

I'm a little surprised by the profanity comments. I honestly don't remember a whole lot of profanity in Jackie Brown. I'd be certain that Pulp Fiction has significantly more foul language. I think Max only says one curse word in the entire film.

I know, pulp has like 270 f bombs and 150 for jackie, but imo, pulp didn't seem excessive, with Jackie Brown, it got a little excessive, esspecially with Ordell, and Beumont

A terrific movie and one of the best from 1997. The relationship between Forster and Grier is what makes it special. Unfortunately it seems most people just wanted to see Pulp 2 and not a more mature Tarantino, hence his reverting to the oh-so-hip cartoonishness of Kill Bill.

I think Jackie Brown contains Tarantino's best writing, while Kill Bill is his best directing work, so I wasn't sure how to vote. Pulp Fiction is probably his most popular film because it is the best of both worlds.

Well, it's Tarantino. We all know how I feel about Tarantino.

I'd hit it!

Jackie Brown is an outstanding movie and although it's not my fav of his (Pulp and Kill Bill are probably the top two), it's a great movie.

I have problems trying to rank his movies. It just depends on my mood. If I want a mellow movie, IMHO, Jackie Brown delivers that goods and lets me sit back and enjoy.

I honestly never understood the appeal. I've only seen it once (in the theater when it came out) and didn't like it. Bored me to tears.

Great film and one of the best in a year packed with fantastic films, but I don't get everyone's need to "rank" it against Pulp Fiction, another great film for different reasons.

I'm still trying to figure out why Saving Private Ryan wasn't as good as E.T....

I didn't really like the movie, but I saw it only once way back in December '97, so maybe it's worth another look. I do recall being very impressed by Robert Forster though. I was pleasantly surprised when the Academy nominated him for Best Supporting Actor. Also, it did have a great soundtrack. I still play that CD every now and then.

Great flick, IMO. I will say that it is Tarantino's 4th worst film, but still an impressive peice of work.

all this talk about how it was such a great movie makes me want to see it again, when it came out I just thought it was ok, nothing great, certainly not "one of the best from 1997"

Great Movie

I loved Robert Forester.

It's hard to rate it against his other films since it has a different feel to it then his other work.

Oh I loved this movie. Better than the rest? That's hard to say. While I'm sure Jackie Brown gets knocked a lot because quite frankly it doesn't have the coolness that pervades his other films (though it's still got that vibe), I think it's his most impressive work dramatically speaking, as there's definately a more in depth development of main characters. Excellent film from an excellent filmmaker. Quentin, make more movies!

I like Jackie Brown more than Pulp Fiction. Forster and Grier both give great performances.

Followed closely by my favorite scene, where Max goes to the record store and buys a cassette of the record she played and wordlessly enjoys it on his way home. Wonderful, subtle filmmaking. I love this film, myself.

I liked the film, although the Samuel L. Jackson character seemed out of place with all his token "Tarantinoisms." I haven't read Rum Punch, so I don't know if his character was like that in the novel.
