You know for getting beat by the PS2 the Xbox and Cube have pretty solid hardware sales.

Glad to see Viewtiful Joe selling decent. Shocked that Kirby sold that well though.

Interesting to see the "non-Xbox Live" EA sports games still continue to dominate the Xbox sales charts.

And yet people on this forum keep saying online gaming is a big selling point.

It may be among hardcore gamers, but not among the mass market casual gamers.

These numbers show:

1. They buy mainly buy brand name (in this case Madden)
2. Online gaming is a selling point to them or they'd overcome number 1 and go for ESPN which is as good or better than Madden depending on your tastes.

the reason online gaming is not a selling point is that there isn't enough of an installed base of broadband users. the majority of people in this country still don't have broadband because it is either not available or still too expensive (both, in my case). once broadband becomes more widespread and affordable (affordable in my opinion is $30/month at most), then more people will get broadband. and online games will be more of an issue.

but the mass public will ALWAYS be slow to learn & stupid and buy well-known brands like Madden, even if the competing offer is better. usually it takes years before people realize that their trusted brand is not as good as it used to be.

That's an argument I make that is often refuted. It can't take off because Broadband isn't available and isn't in a lot of people's price range yet.

Nintendo is missing out on nothing business wise IMO by not having online this gen

They better have it next gen though as broadband will continue to spread and drop in cost.

Jeebus - why does every thread have to sink into another "online gaming is crap" arguement? Let it go.

Jeeebus, do you have to be snide and mis read a post in every thread.

No one said it was crap.

I just get sick of hearing that Nintendo is doomed for not doing it, and that it's some huge selling point right now when it's clearly not.

It is important, and I believe it will catch on and be a selling point in the future. But it's a moot point this gen IMO.

Nobody has said anything about nintendo being doomed for not including online capabilities in like 2 years. Every thread I visit though seems to end up in this epic debate about how online gaming is great or it's worthelss or whatever... I'm just sick of it. Start a thread about online gaming and use these numbers if you want. This thread doesn't need to be yet another place to talk about it. Or maybe it does - I don't care... I'm just expressing my opinion that I'm tired of hearing about it. Don't try to pick fights with me by accusing me of being snide. My post in this thread wasn't directed at you and the other thread was just a little tongue in cheek that was supposed to be funny... but whatever.

I'm not trying to pick fights. I have no interest in arguing. I didn't take the other comment as funny, but rather as you being sarcastic and mainly took offense as it was off base as I said nothign about online gaming in that thread.

I never said the comment in this thread was directed at me, I was taking up for the other guy as this this thread's a perfect place to discuss it. The data shows the non-online sports games are outselling the x-box live games. It was an astute observation on his part and worth discussing IMO. It was bashig online gaming at all as you claimed, but rather showing evidence that it's not huge this gen (despite the claims of others on this board in other threads).

And trust me, Nintendo haters on this fourm have said multiple times that they are fools for not going online and that it is one of the reasons they are doomed to fail.
