Wow, I figured Elf would eventually surpass Matrix, but this soon? And Looney Tunes is a pretty big disaster... it'll probably pass the Tupac movie with Saturday and Sunday numbers, but that's still pretty bad. Too much family competition from Elf and Brother Bear I suppose. Things will just get worse when The Cat in the Hat is added to the mix.

Matrix down 70%. Holy shit, that's up there with The Hulk. I wanna see Elf, sounds like a great flick.

I think it's become pretty clear that Revolutions is NOT going to make $200M domestically.

I'm waiting for a Episode I-style fan edit of Reloaded and Revolutions put together as a single, say 2 hour 45 minute movie. Hell maybe I'll do one on my own.

That said - Reloaded must have left a really sour taste in the mouth of the general public. Guess that's what happens when the "sense of wonder" disappears from a series. Too bad, but you gotta admit you prolly saw it coming

Nah, the bad reviews for Revolutions killed it. Everyone who wanted to see it, caught it. And the bad word of mouth will kill it for good. It'll make about $150 mil here, which is pretty bad, as ridiculous as it sounds.

Man, who would've guessed we'd be saying this 6-8 months ago? Damn, these sequels/trilogies these days...

Haha yeah, I woulda figured it'd do more than $150m but it looks to be heading in the general area (which gives the 6 week DVD rumor some footing.).

As it stands, Revolutions is set to make less than the original, and half of what Reloaded made.

I personally thought Rev was better than Rel, although neither of them were a shadow of the original, but damnation, that's one hell of a big second-week drop! The Wachowskis have fallen hard in the mainstream audience's views, no other way to look at it.

A shame about Revolutions considering how great it was.

Loony Toons was no surprise... commercials for it just looked stupid.

I hope Looney Tunes does better. Word of mouth should give it some good legs though.

Whoa... quite surprised about Looney Tunes. Only a $747 screen average; lower than Brother Bear which has been out a week.

Good to know Master and Commander had decent box office.

Interesting factoid: It took Reloaded 3 days to surpass US$100 mil, but Revolutions has taken 11 days to do it. In fact, in 10 days, Reloaded had reached US$188 mil. Guess lotsa people were EXTREMELY disappointed with Reloaded.

Yeah, those commercials for Looney Toons were a wreck. Too bad too because the movie was actually quite fun. Both my five-year-old daughter and myself quite enjoyed it and will probably catch it again before it leaves theaters.

I've never seen a trailer for Looney Toons. Plenty of posters on the directory stands in the malls, but never a trailer.

I think Revolutions is gonna have a hard time passing T3. Pretty shocking indeed.

Reloaded made 281 million in eleven days? I don't think so...

Word of reviewer's mouths won't, though.

What's interesting is that over at boxofficemojo on the message boards everyone's predicting ELF will actually squeak ahead of M&C with Saturday's numbers and be #1 for the weekend. What do you think? It's got pretty good word of mouth it seems...

According to boxofficemojo, Reloaded had $188,645,514 in the bank on it's eleventh day.

Not to mention the fact that it's 1) a family-friendly movie, and family movies make much more on Saturday and Sunday in relation to their Friday numbers; and 2) it's in its second week as opposed to M&C which is in its first weekend, as many (but not all) movies tend to be frontloaded their first weekends.

Either way it's another great success for New Line, who is having a superb second half of a year. Freddy vs Jason, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Elf, and the inevitable powerhouse Return of the King.

All the NetGeeks/Fanboys bad mouthing Revolutions is taking it's toll.

I saw it the second week during the evening. The room only had 20 people tops.

Well obviously Matrix ain't holding on too well in the US. But...while I'm sure Warners is disapointed...but is it that bad? I mean this movie will continue to do amazing overseas, so I can't imagine they feel that bad. And overseas is where these movies make most of their money anyways.

I blame Larry Wachowski's cross-dressing.

Nah, for a 70% drop, that's regular moviegoers finding the movie as bad as the "NetGeeks/Fanboys".

Yup. And considering that Reloaded probably exceeded expectations, i'm sure Warner is perfectly happy with the movies. With a 127 million budget for Reloaded and a 110 budget for Revolutions according to IMDB, plus marketing and what not, even a 300 million dollar cost for the two movies combined was easily overcome.
