Superbit - how do they determine which movies to release?
Hi,
I"m just curious....as I bought the BAD BOYS Superbit edition. The BAD BOYS 2 just released, but should I anticipate Superbit to release BAD BOYS 2?
thanks,

It probably would be better if they used the dart method.

They used to choose them by which transfer was already reference or near reference quality.
Now, they have become more diverse, selecting a wider variety of titles - including better titles. They were conducting an online poll a while back as far as which titles you would like to see.
As far as Close Encounters, I wouldn't be surprised if we eventually see it.
For myself, I am most interested in Spider-Man right now. I'm guessing it will be released at the same time the sequel arrives in the theater (in May).

I know that but obviously I don't live in Japan and I don't have a region-free player.

Well, if you have the cash to throw about over meaningless "Superbit" titles ... why not get a multiregion player? Fine investment.

Do you know where we can get a listing of Superbit from Japan?
I have seen some Superbit series from Malaysia...is that worth getting? Are they DVD-R? I'm not fond of bootleg quality.

Re: Superbit - how do they determine which movies to release?
My theory is that they are using Superbit to prop up sales of older or less popular releases. Note that they aren't doing Superbit releases of their most popular titles, nor of titles that seem like they deserve reference-quality video.

(There are exceptions of course, such as XXX and Spider-man)

I hope that they do
Godzilla (American version),
Flatliners,
Glory, and
Philadelphia
To clarify, I don't care whether Sony/Columbia release these as SuperBits or not. I just want the new transfers.

sure it was a flawed movie, but I enjoyed it, but I really want "The Messenger - The Story of Joan of Arc" - the 5.1 soundmix is downright aggressive and in your face, have put off buying the import DTS edition in hopes that a Region 1 Superbit edition might appear sometime in the near future.
