Sounds very cool. Any confirmation that these won't end up like My so Called Fiasco?

What scares me is the region 0 at the bottom of the page.

Tenaciousdave,

Why are you scared by the Region 0? I suggested to Broadway Video that they make it Region 0 so that people around the world could enjoy the set. When a company owns the rights worldwide and plans a release I don't think it makes sense to make it Region 1 when you know the set won't be released in other regions.

Keep in mind that Broadway Video Enterprises is more than a few steps up from AnotherUniverse.com. This is the company that owns the rights to KiTH as well As Saturday Night Live and a couple of others. They also have their own production arm which is authoring the DVDs (they've done many of the SNL discs as well). I've met with everyone else working on the set and everyone wants it to be as good as possible.

OK, maybe I'm being a bit paranoid, but...

The official Kids in the Hall site (http://www.kidsinthehall.com/kith/) makes no mention of the set being up for sale (even the merchandising link says not yet available). The link back to the KiTH site from the link in the original post is not working. For an official website, there seems to be an unreasonably large number of glitches. I think I'll wait until the set is on the official page before ordering.

I had planned on updating the site on Monday when the email is sent out, but since you brought it up I've updated the official site with the link to the store. I was a bit busy today and didn't get the info up everywhere it should be.

Feel free to order the set now

Order will be placed shortly... do you know if Yahoo charges you when the order is placed or when the item is shipped?

Thanks

Hmm....good question...unfortunately I don't have an answer to that. I wasn't involved in setting the store up, just working on the DVD set. I'll try and find out, but that probably won't happen until Monday.

Well....looks like some of the Broadway Video people are working late....on a Friday night!

The cards won't be charged until the product ships. You'll receive 1 email when you place the order and a second email when the card is charged.

Gord, do you know if the price will reduce when it hits mainstream? $60USD is exorbitant to ask for one season boxset.

Well, I'd have to disagree with your "exorbitant" statement. This wasn't a cheap set to produce, trust me.

The $60 USD price is the SRP price for the set. That's what it will be when it hits retail, but many e-tailers and stores will discount the set from that price. You'll just have to wait awhile longer (probably 5 months), and you won't get the bonus item (magnetic poetry). If neither of that matters to you then feel free to wait.

Working on the set was a very educational experience for me. I've heard that people have their hands open, looking for money, but now I know how many people are looking for bucks for a DVD set. I had always assumed that something like scripts would be free to put on a DVD set....not so. Literally _everything_ for a DVD set costs money. So while the price is high when compared to some large sets which will sell hundreds of thousands of units, it's far from being exorbitant.

If it were anything other than KiTH, I might question the price. However, I have no problems paying $60 to not have to wait several more months to get it. (and besides, since the Disney treasures that I was going to buy that week have been delayed, I have some extra funds laying around).

My order is placed... I can't hardly wait. (can you tell I'm a huge KiTH fan?)

Well, I'm a huge fan myself. Infact I remembered them filming an episode around my school and me, along with my friends accidentally went into the shots. Quite hilarious how we heckled them because they were not well known as yet.

$60 compared to $40 for Frasier or Cheers, but I guess being a small production, they're making it as affordable as possible. Didn't Lorne Michaels have a hand in creating this? If anything, he should put up some funding for the DVD.

I actually had no idea people who worked on this set posted on the forums. Also, I don't keep up with studios/distributers/publishers. Sorry about the doubts.

I too could care less about the price of the set...it's the shipping cost that amazed me. But I still went ahead and ordered my set. I'm sure for the remaining sets I'll wait and get them at a large retail chain. I just want this one ASAP.

Special time and care was taken to get this released so I can't really complain too much about the cost. I'm just happy to see them coming out

No problem, I just found it odd that you'd be worried because it was a region free set.

Shipping is $7, isn't it? Doesn't seem too out of whack for a 4 disc set, does it? I know shipping overseas is a lot more. I wasn't really involved in setting the store up, or the shipping charges, but when they mentioned them to me I thought it sounded reasonable.

The SRP of Cheers is actually $49.99, not $40.

Lorne Michaels was the executive producer of the show and was interviewed for the DVD set, but he didn't personally have anything to do with the production of the DVDs. I guess you could argue that because his company did the DVDs and he owns the company that he has actually funded the set. Of course the set has to pay for itself, and if it doesn't then there won't be a season 2 set produced, and I'm sure we all want to see season 2 on DVD. I know I'd like to work on another set.

Oooh. This is cruel. I'm poor, but the Kids was the biggest TV show I wanted to see show up on DVD. I don't know if I'll be able to wait the several months to get this cheaper in a store. And the magnetic poetry set. Aggggh...

Decisions, decisions...

I've been a huge fan of Kids in the Hall since it was first shown in the U.S., and I will definitely get this DVD set. But I'll wait until it hits the regular stores and is much less expensive. The $20 or more that I'll save (especially when you add in the exhorbinant shipping fee) is worth the wait.

And I don't need or want magnetic poetry.

Are these the original Canadian version or the edited HBO/American versions?

Well, samples of the magnets showed up at my place tonight and they are great! Nice, laminated magnets (postcard sized) with the KiTH logo in the center, surrounded by the words.

Cusm, these are the unedited HBO versions. These are different than the episodes currently airing on Comedy Central. It's written into the Kids contracts what can be released on DVD, so these are the episodes the Kids want their fans to see. There are minor differences between the HBO and CBC versions.
