My Tivo hums loudly. I don’t think it’s a happy tune.

For about a week it’s been humming. The sound is not unlike a vcr rewinding, or a loud CD drive.

Does this mean a) my warranty is good for 90 days and b) it’s been over 90 days?

cold boot it: unplug from power for a minute, will not erase any settings, at least on the Sonys it doesn't

I second that. If you've got a hummer, you may want to let it spin down, cool off, then restart. And as a bonus, you'll get to see the TiVo cartoon again!

Destroy it.

Completely.

It is possessed by pure unadultured evil. If you fail, all of mankind is doomed.

I certainly wouldn't want THAT resting on my shoulders.

Are you loving it enough? You know it requires a weekly hug to keep chugging along, don't you?

Well, I’ve always given it my love, since it’s more dependable and forgets less than – umm, no I better not.

Unplugged, as suggested. Poured it a but I got a . I guess it wants a different brand or sumpin.

Plugged it in and it hummed just as loudly for a minute or so, then settled down to nice and quite.

No cartoon, though. Maybe that was an earlier software version?

Thanks for the help.

"Hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm."

Looks like I'm going to have to teach it the words.

Congrats! See, I/we told you it would work.

Hmmm, I thought all Tivo-branded units would play the Happy Tivo Guy cartoon after a reboot. You can force the cartoon by pressing the Tivo button on your remote and then zero.

Last thing, which unit do you have? Mine is a Sony SAT-T60 DirecTiVo unit.
