Dvd recording from Vhs/Dvd combo question..

I have a small question that I am hoping someone can answer for me..

My father currently has a Panasonic Vhs/Dvd player and hes looking into buying the Cyberhome 1500 dvd-recorder. If he tries to make backups from his vhs (not dvd) home movies and such will he be able to? Or will Macrovision stop him from doing so? I am by no means asking about making bootlegs or anything.. just trying to save him from buying a unit and being stuck with it.

Thanks

From what I understand of DVD recorders, since you're sendinf an unencrypted analog signal to the DVD recorder, you should have no problem. It would be like plugging in your camcorder to the same inputs to burn home movies. It should be no problem. But maybe someone else can give you a definete answer.

Macrovision only works when the source material activates it, so home movies are not an issue when recording or dubbing usually.

Yes, your home movies don't have any macrovision added to them, so that won't be a problem. Macrovision isn't added to VHS by default... a movie studio has to license it out and intentionally put it on.
