Holy Crap! Farscape RETURNS ??? (!!!)

TV Guide

"FAR OUT!: Hey, 'Scapers — this is the news you've been waiting for! The Jim Henson Company is holding a press conference Thursday to "announce an exciting new development in the campaign to continue Farscape." Among those participating in the media pow-wow: Series creator Rockne S. O'Bannon and exec producers Brian Henson and David Kemper. They better not be unveiling the 2003 Farscape Christmas ornament."

Cinescape

And here's where we drop the other shoe: we know for a fact that tomorrow afternoon The Jim Henson Company will host a press conference concerning the future of FARSCAPE. Among those FARSCAPE creators scheduled to attend are producers Brian Henson and David Kemper, with series creator Rockne O'Bannon also a likely participant. The purpose of the event? To announce a "new development" with FARSCAPE.

I fear this is the "good but not great" news I've simultaneously hoped for and dreaded all year. If I had to guess, I'd expect a mini-series is in our future.

I was late in jumping on the Farscape wagon (I don't pay for cable so don't even have the sci-fi channel)....but I have been watching it on dvd. It has quickly become one of my favorite shows and I dreaded knowing that the show ended thus far on a cliffhanger due to cancellation. Even just a miniseries at this point would make me feel so much better that at least the creators of the show will have the opportunity to end the story in the way that they want to.

So at the very least, I hope it is a miniseries.....

......and not something silly like a book or a comic book.......

Oh please let it at least be a miniseries or (dare I hope), a new season. If it's a new season I think I'd need to use my daughter's inhaler, I'd get so exited.

Favorite show ever.

Let's see how well I do over the next 24 hours...

...holding my breath and all. God, please let this be good. It's be a nice high note to an otherwise crappy week.

EDIT-

This fresh from SaveFarscape.com:
Hello, you may have seen the reports of a possible Farscape related press conference set for tomorrow, at TVGuide.com, Dark Horizons or Cinescape. The word from Henson as of 2:30 pm pacific time, is that any press conference has been postponed indefinitely and that they have no further information on the situation.

The Jim Henson Company announces "Farscape 1980"

"The great ship...Moya. Majestic and loving...strong and protecting. Our home for these many years we've endured the wilderness of space...and now we near the end of our journey. Probes and electronic surveilance have confirmed that we've reached our haven...that planet which is home to our ancestor brothers. We have at last found...Earth."

After years of searching, John Crichton and the crew of Moya finally encounter Earth. Their joy is short-lived when they discover that the cumulative effect of all of John's previous wormhole travels have led them not to present-day Earth, but to Earth in 1980. To complicate matters, the crew discovers a homing-beacon planted aboard Moya, and with it comes the sudden realization that they have inadvertantly led Scorpius and the Peacekeepers right to Crichton's homeworld.

Dargo and Pilot head Moya away, hoping to prevent the Peacekeepers from finding the planet, while Crichton and Aeryn head on down to locate Professor Morrison, a man they hope can help them speed Earth's tehnological development. But Rygel believes more drastic steps should be taken, and uses a time-travel device based on a stabilized mini-wormhole to go to Earth's past -- specifically high-tech Nazi Germany -- intending to advance its technology rapidly.

the press conference will be rescheduled for sometime next week apparently a couple of the participants were unable to get there for yesterday.

tvguide.com had the following today.

That Farscape press conference we told you about yesterday, during which producers were going to "announce an exciting new development in the campaign to continue" the franchise, has been postponed, a rep for the Jim Henson Company confirms. But never fear, 'Scapers. Sources tell me the media event will be rescheduled for sometime next week. (And trust me, it'll be well worth the wait.)

was just about to run over and post that tvguide.com news..

damn another CT nightowl!!

i'm trying real hard not to get too excited with that last line..."[And trust me, it'll be well worth the wait.]". someone please shoot my hopes down so my expectations lowered...

[psst...it'll take more than a picture of Kenny McCord in what is so obvious a rip-off of that great Bonnie Hammer creation - "Battlestar Galactica"...]

Looks like we're getting a mini-series!

From IGN: http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/440/440604p1.html

November 14, 2003 - As IGN FilmForce reported back in July, a new Farscape project is finally on its way. While an official announcement was postponed earlier this week, IGN FilmForce has learned that the production office in Australia has re-opened and work has begun on a new project.

The Henson company would not comment on the information but a source close to the production has confirmed that the new project will be a miniseries, not a new season as originally hoped for by the fans. While no plot details are available, sources have also confirmed that the new project will be independent from the Sci-Fi Channel, the network that broadcast the series. No information is currently available about just where the new miniseries will be appearing or when.

Obviously, this is good news for the fans that have fought so hard to bring the series back but there may be cause for guarded optimism. The miniseries is currently seen as a standalone project with no new episode commitment attached, so nothing is guaranteed beyond this project.

Well, if they can resolve the cliffhanger, is that a bad thing?

It'd a heluva lot better than the situationas it is now.

Whoa!! That is screwed up. I am in the same boat and was seriously considering buying these season sets... not now though. Thanks for the warning.

Dude, do NOT let that stop you - the joy you will get from watching this great show easily eclipses any sense misgivings you may have about a little cliff-hanger - which by the looks of it, WILL get resolved soon enough.
