Did my subwoofer just die?

Noticed the other day while watching a new DVD that while I still get bass out of my subwoofer, it also has a low alternating rumble basically any time there is bass in the movie. It does not sound normal at all. It is a JBL sub that I have had for close to 3 years. Is it shot or does this little bit of info that I told you make you think of something else. One other bit of info is that I did notice somehow the couch got pushed up against the sub and broke my monster cable that was hooked to the sub. I had to take it in to get the end of the cable out, but on the surface it now looks ok. Not sure when this happened but I noticed it right after it started making strange noises b/c I was looking it over to figure out what was going on. Any help on this problem would be appreciated.

First off, its BASS not BASE... It very well might be the cable. I would first buy an entire new Sub Cable and test. If its the same, return the cable and go from there.

Thanks for the heads up on the typo. As far as the cable, I already went out and got a new one and I still have the same problem. So now what?

Well, you have ruled out the cable being the problem. It does seem like the sub has gone bad but it could be the receiver. Therefore, you can hook up the sub to a different receiver or try a new sub.
