Vincenzo Natali's Cypher (2-disc R2) - 12/9

I believe there's already a Swedish disc available, but this German release sounds like a pretty good set! I never got the Japanese version of Cube, so including the Elevated short on this disc is a nice bonus. Too bad the DTS is only on the German track... From Amazon.de:

1.85:1
English (Dolby Digital 5.1)
German (Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS)
Sub-title: German (not forced, I assume?)

DVD features:
• Audio commentary w/ director Vincenzo Natali, film script author Brian King, Jasna Stefanovich and actor David Hewlett
• 'Elevated' short film with audio commentary by director Vincenzo Natali and actor David Hewlett
• The Making Of 'Cypher'
• Interview with Cast & Crew
• Behind the Scenes material
• Pre Visualizations
• 9 deleted scenes
• Isolated film music
• Multi-angle Storyboard/Film comparison
• 5 photo galleries (markers -, Requisiten -, costume Designs, turning places and international Artwork)
• Trailer, Biographies, Production Notes

A very interesting film. Saw the barebones rental French DVD a couple weeks ago and the picture quality was excellent.

A collector's edition is going to be released on January 22, 2004. It will have both English and French DTS tracks, and the following features:

Bonus
On DVD 1 : Audio commentary

DVD 2 :
Deleted scenes
Making of documentary
Iinterview with the director and the writer
Featurette on the
Spoiler:
brainwashing machine

Interview with the visual effects supervisor
Animated photo gallery
Film/story-board comparison
Trailers for Cypher, Cube "et des meilleurs films d'espionnage"
DVD-Rom: French Cypher website

Elevated was already included on the French SE of Cube. However, there's no mention of the isolated score.

FWIW, you can safely bet subtitles will be forced, but not burned-in.

Just to double check, are you referring to the French SE or the German here? I don't doubt the French release will have forced subs, but I'm not too familiar with how this is handled in Germany.

From what i'm lead to believe (although i may be wrong) the French SE of Cube doesn't have forced subtitles so any particular reason why it should in this case?

so... ?? I am a tad confused here, which version is the one to buy, the French or the German DVD edition?

Also, is this getting a US theatrical release (or an eventual straight to video release)?

Suppose it boils down to whether you'd like the short film Elevated that is on the German release (and assuming you don't own the French SE of Cube ) or whether you'd like a DTS English soundtrack as what is specified with the French release.
I'd always choose the French over the German one anyway....but that's only because i've an understanding of French and can't speak a word of German

I can also atest to the fact that orders from Amazon (France) are delivered alot quicker then from Germany. (the wait for the German DVD's of "Disney's Sleeping Beauty" and "Fifth Element SE" were notoriousily s-l-o-w)

The German DVD won't have forced German subtitles. The DVD is produced by McOne. (Nowhere in Africa SE, Donnie Darko - Collector's Edition Tin (2 DVDs)...)

The following was written originally in Spanish by member of a Spanish DVD forum who goes by the nickname 'avesatani.'

Currently available for a great price at amazon.de.

A region-1 DVD has been announced by Miramax for August 2, but according to dvdplanet, it'll be a single-disc edition and so probably deprived of many of these bonus features.

The reason I posted it here was to inform North American forum members to help them decide whether to buy the upcoming R1 edition or get the R2 one.

And according to dvdcompare and dvdfever, the UK edition is missing out on:

-Dolby Headphone track (gimmicky but really works!)
-Short film, "Elevated"
-Storyboard-to-film comparisons
-Isolated score
-Photo galleries
