Because all dvd's are typically priced about 19-20 bucks. It's just stores like best buy and circut city use the new releases as a sort of Loss leader and price them well below MSRP just to get the customer in the door in the hopes of selling them something else. In most cases, they like to use GOOD films as loss leaders because that will bring in the most folks. a film like dumb and dumberer wont sell all that great to begin with even with a price drop.
Add a lack of decent theater run and you get a studio that wants to make back as much money as they can any way possible.

The list price is $27.95. I don't see anything at all unusual about Dumb and Dumberer being widely priced around the twenty dollar mark by retailers -- it's a popular price point used by movies new and old, successful and unsuccessful.

If it were on laserdisc, it'd be $39.99. VHS is probably $99.

I wish more studios felt the same way.

Why is somebody considering buying this anyway??? Seriously, it is NOT GOOD. I had a chance to rent it for free before it came out, so I did for the helluva it, hoping it couldn't be as bad as I had heard (I've heard critics rip on movies I genuinely like) but, yes, I am afraid it is as bad as you've heard. The only thing redeemable are some creative bonus features on the DVD (personally, I want to see more DVDs introduce the "pillow screen" option, but for the entire movie. Maybe that could take the place of pan and scam versions on editions that have two screen options on them). But none of the bonus features are worth the price, not even in a 5.88 bin at Wal Mart.
