Kirk Cameron and Willie Aames Jesus movies: what am I in for?
I've heard much mentioned of these films, Kirk Cameron's Left Behind series(now $5.88 at wal-mart so I'm considering gambling) and the much acclaimed Willie Aames "Bibleman" series(which I've never actually seen in a store).
I just want some feedback as to what I"m getting into here. I am a practicing Roman Catholic, so I have belief, but I"m not about to be put off by anything reliegous in here. I"m just wondering if they are decent films, or at least offer some decent camp/unintentional laugh value.
Any feedback is great!

Actually, I rented some of the Bibleman videos as a hoot. I have to say that children and adults can both enjoy them. I'm not really religious at all. But these videos have a sense of humor throughout that the older crowd can appreciate. I'm not sure if I would buy any of them though. As for Left Behind, I have nothing good to say about anything that Tim LaHaye is affiliated with.

I think both Left Behind movies are decent, if you aproach them in a made-for-TV rather than theatrical kind of way - meaning don't look for the quality of a feature film, and you should enjoy them.

Ive only seen the first Left Behind movie. And i'd agree with Spooky's assessment (probably should have just made them a tv mini-series from the start) But for 5.88 go for it.
Personally their not my thing - if I want to watch something faith-based I'll stick with Prince of Egypt, The Apostle, or even Signs.

What gets people mad about LEFT BEHIND is that if you don't believe in Jesus you get left behind.
If your a liberal, then put your open mind to use.
Just watch it.
And you can say I know of it.

The Left Behind movies are a big dissapointment compared to the books.
The Omega Code is better. But I would recommend the 1978 Italian Jesus movie, or THE MIRACLE MAKER, nice adaptations.

Some pretty entertaining reviews at RottenTomatoes. 6 fresh, 33 rotten.
"A Christian fundamentalist film styled as a grade-B sci-fi action thriller."
"The storytelling is heavy-handed, the plot convoluted, the direction inconsistent, the acting wooden and the effects cheesy."
"A classic case of preaching to the converted, this relentlessly boring movie is unlikely to appeal to anyone except hard-core fans of Christian sci-fi."
"As a film, it's a sorry mess of addled plotting that serves up byzantine paranoia about conspiracies lurking around the United Nations."
"A weak proselytizing device masquerading as a movie."
"Rest assured, Left Behind isn't a bad movie because it's Christian; it's a bad movie because it just isn't good."
