I saw this and thought it pretty much sucked. Great concept. I think Oliver Assayes is overrated

I saw this and thought it pretty much ruled . . .
It even improved upon a second viewing. Easily one of my favorites this year: difficult, smart, beautifully shot, and finely acted. Demonlover documents the fleeting, "unpermanent" nature of today's images and our culture's reaction/non-reaction to them.

OK, for a third opinion - I saw it and thought it pretty much sucked, but I think Assayas is otherwise a great director. Cold Water is one of the best films I've seen all year.
I have heard other people say they liked demonlover a lot more with a second or third viewing. Maybe so, but it's just not worth it to me.

To elaborate:
When I first heard of the film I said, "that's the stupidest thing I've heard. It's a total rip off of Videodrome."
Once I'd seen it I actually felt it should have been more like Videodrome in the sense of being more tightly plotted. It's all the same ideas of Videodrome only unspooled into a loose, eliptical, disconnected mostly uninteresting film.
I also think Assayes is too obvious with his use of foriegn films/porno/animation/etc. He did it with Heroic Trio in Irma Vep, now its all over Deamonlover. I feel it's a pretty screwed up way to homage something when all you do is have characters in the film literally watch something.
