XBox console problem

I bought my XBox in May and now it keeps freezing up. Especially playing Tiger woods 2004. It will say that the disk is damaged or dirty. It did the same thing with TW 2003. On other games it will also freeze up. I know its not my games since they are new.
What should I do?

XBox consoles crap out alot, there are several threads on the subject.

Synopsis:

1. MS will fix it for $100 - just call the help line

2. Some people mentioned trading it at EB, etc. This is very YMMV.

3. Replace the drive. Takes a little skill and time, but not overly difficult. Can do new things with unit when better drive is installed like use burned disc. (I do not promote stealing, but that seems to be important to some.) Also speeds up load times.

4. Buy a new one.

5. If under warranty, get it fixed.

Suggestion: With Christmas upon us, watch for deals - rumors have a great deal at Target Black Friday, and just buy another one. If you have the extended warranty however, use it. Replacing the drive is what I did. Cost about $80. Cheapest option I had.

yeah, after buying the GTA double pack and returning and exchanging it twice, I figured out it was the drive (I never had a problem up until then). There are three drives: Philips, Samsung and Thomson. Thomson being the must prone to freezing and short life. The Samsung from my investigating seems to be the one you want. Over at the xbox forums---where I've found such information---there is a ton of threads about this. Find a new one built in 2003 and it seems as though an xbox ending with the serial number 05 is a good bet it was produced with a Samsung drive and not the dreaded Thomson.

I ebayed my xbox friday night and it was bought on saturday already. Yes, I did explain the problem fully in my auction for prospective bidders. So I'm buying a new one very shortly. $100 for MS to replace? F' them.

Just a warning: I bought an X-Box on the 25th, and I'd been having some problems with it. I finally realized I had the Thomson drive. The funny thing is, my serial number ended in 05.

I exchanged it for a new one at Wal-Mart today. It had a Samsung drive, and its serial number ended with 6. No problems yet.

Shoot, no one mentioned that there's a chance MS might replace it for free. Sorry I didn't see this thread earlier.

I've had my Xbox since March 2002. It has a Thompson drive. No problems at all.

The kiss of death. That is similar to what I said, like the next day it started giving errors.
