You'll not get many replies with SO many sets to review and no idea of your needs. It would be easier for us to make a suggestion IF we knew more about the following:

How much is your budget? min-max
What is the intended usage (percent)? DVD, SAT/Cable, OTA, Gaming, HTPC, etc.
4x3 or 16x9
HD or SD
Any size restrictions? ie. entertainment center it needs to fit into.
B&M stores only or are you willing to order from an on-line vendor?
It's laborious on our part to make a suggestion without you first being as specific as possible about the above.

In the words of Jerry Maguire "help me, help you!"

Jason,
The link that you pasted has about 13 pages of TV's (I did not bother to look through all the pages). Many of the Tv's are older models.
For a large screen TV, you have lots of questions that you need to ask yourself
- Widescreen or fullscreen
- HDTV, or HDTV ready, or NON HDTV
- how much tweaking do you want to do
- What sort of watching do you do TV, Movies, games etc.
- how much can you spend

My suspicion of why you are not being answered is that your question is too huge.. Sort of like asking "What 4 door car would you recommend?"

There are many good home theater web sites devoted to discussions of this sort of thing, but they generally have individual brand areas so your question would be need to be defined to something like "I am considering a Toshiba XXXXXXX or the Sony XXXXXXX which do people like better, or why..?"

I had the same questions - I knew virtually nothing about Big TV's, and so I hit the web sites - mostly reading about what people like, brands, why and why not, again looking at your own needs. Then it is to the stores, and looking at the Tv's (recognizing that most stores have the TV's set up all wrong with too much contrast, color, brightness, and sharpness) but at least you can get a feel for them (they vary widely in sizes, and there are many different features, some you will care about, others not). Then back to the web to read and begin to ask questions that will really help you determine your needs, wants, and what is important to you. I think that a lot of people take several weeks, or even a month or 2 to really figure out what they want. It is a pretty sizeable amount of change particularly when you get into the HDTVs - they will run $2000 - $5000.

Generally the top large screen Tvs are in no particular order - Sony, Hitachi, Mitsubishi, Pioneer, Toshiba - with the latter 4 being the ones that the people that really seem to be "into" their TVs with tweaks, and discussion.
Good luck in your search.
Oh, the one I got is the Hitachi 65SWX20b and I love it.

Sorry guys, this is a little overwhelming to me. I'm looking for
an RP WS HDTV (HD ready) 60 - 65 inches. I would like to stay under
$2200 and get a good deal. (you know the kind of deal where
6 months later you see your tv for less, but you still feel satisfied
with what you did at the time)

I plan to use it to watch DVD's and hook my dish PVR up to it
for normal viewing as well. I won't hook my PS2 up to it for
gaming, I'll leave that on another tv.

I have no size restrictions as the family room it will be in is very
large. (no entertainment center it needs to fit with)

As far as going to a B&M or ordering online, I'm not sure at this
point. We have both a Best Buy and a Circuit City here in Tucson
so it will probably end up being a B&M. I appreciate the list of
brand names that are considered better. That gives me a good
starting point, and I'm going to take your advise and head over
to Best Buy in about an hour.

Thanks again!

Jason

Okay guys, went to bestbuy and circuit city, really liked the
but the price was a bit higher than I want to Hitachi HIT 65S500
go at $2699. (plus 7.6% sales tax !ouch!). They also had a Sony SON KP65WS510 for $2599.

Now the guy at circuit city told me that the Hitachi is the highest
rated model, while he said the Sony was good, that it was Sony's
entry model. I've never put much stock in what a sales person
says, so what do you guys think? The Hitachi has a built in HD
reciever that I probably don't need.

Bestbuy had a Samsung HCN-653W for $2400, a Mitsubishi
WS-65313 for $2600 and a Toshiba 65H83 at $2660.

I wanted a 60 - 65" for $2500 or under after taxes.

Thoughts?

Jason

I would HIGHLY suggest the Pioneer SD-643 which is being sold at Costco's for something like $1900.

Frank's SD-643 suggestion is a very very good one. Definitely worth at least checking out. The SD-643 has great tubes, and one of the best processors. It's an all around solid performer. Use the money you save on it and get a good calibration.

I have to agree with Frank. If you are looking into a CRT RPTV, you can't wrong with Pioneer. I was looking at those a while back.

Thanks for all the info, I'm off to Costco tomorrow or Monday
to check out the Pioneer. Does Costco deliver and setup?

I can't help but to strongly recommend Mitsubishi for pq and product quality. Although the Pioneers and Hitachis are my next choices. You should be able to find a nice 65" Mitsu foer under $2500 (a model or 2 up from the 65313). And for under $50 you can get a calibration disc and a membership to homrtheaterspot, which will give you the tools and knowhow to tweak and calibrate your set, incl. adjusting linearity and overscan. Great tv, beautiful picture, mine is still impresssive to me after a whole year. (And I pay attention to every rptv I see in stores and at friends' houses--although store display sets are *never* set up properly, so don't use them as a critical comparison for pq!)

Went to Costco and They had the Pioneer 65 there for $1999.
After checking it out, I'm not so sure about it. 1st problem I have
is I don't have a way to get it home. I'm going to take a closer
look at it on the Pioneer website.

Something interesting, is at Bestbuy today the guy said they're
doing a Christmas price match where they'll do a pricematch up
to 30 days after Christmas if you find a better price somewhere.
They normally do it for 30 days

You can rent a U-haul truck for about $19.95! WELL worth the rental! Don't let delivery hold you back!

Yah, what sonic said. Really, pass on a deal when you can just get a cheap rental? Definitely grab 2-3 friends to help move it too. That'll set you back another $15 or so for 2 sixes of good beer! You might even find someone with a van or pickup for those same sixpacks. (Note: drink brews *after* moving the tv!!)

I had a friend with a pickup help me pick up my 65" Mits. It saved me big bucks and I paid him in beer and help with some stuff he wanted moved. Note that the Mits 65 (and probably others) can be separated into 2 pieces for easier moving.

We had to split ours to get it inside the smallish freight elevator. It was raining when it was delivered, and the delivery guys had unboxed it -- they refused to split it (didn't know it was possible and didn't want to do anything to it), and were going to take it back thru the rain, unboxed (which wopuld have ruined it). I had to take out the screws myself, assume responsibility, and tell them just to be *very* careful with each half.

Absolutely no problems with it. Again, I'd highly recommend with a Mitsu to adjust the linearity and overscan after set-up using the service menus (details at hometheaterspot).

On the verge of sounding like a complete idiot I have one last
question, does the Pioneer SD643 support a progressive Scan
DVD?

I'm sure the answer is yes, I have a Progresive scan dvd (that
I'm not using that mode with my current 35" TV).

Thanks - Jason

The DvdTalk Gods smiled on me and I was able to get
an incredible deal on the Hitachi 65" 65s500 (see 10 posts
above). Needless to say I saved a bundle and got the HDTV I
wanted originally but couldn't afford. Big thanks to Kman1011

Anyone else out there have the Hitahci and want to let me know
how you like it?

Jason
