A Movie So Frightening, We Can't Reveal What it Is.
Cinemax is supposedly showing a movie on Halloween night at 8:00 pm but is not revealing anything about it. It is only listed in the T.V. Guide as a sneak preview. Anyone have any info on what this "frightening" movie may be. Maybe Shannon Tweed has a new direct to video slasher film premiering that is also starring Andrew Stevens.

Just checked Cinemax's website and nada. They say that they are going to play the movie all throughout November which leads me to believe that it might be a movie that was in theaters within a year or so ago. Oh well, guess we'll find out soon enough.

I believe that it is The Ring. During the promo they show clips of it but don't mention it as part of the Halloween movie marathon they are having that day.

Didn't an exorcist director's cut get released to dvd a little bit ago? Did it ever make the rounds of cable?

It's only on from 8-9:30 according to the DirecTV program guide, so that might help narrow it down to only a thousand or so movies.
But it does leave out some like:
The Exorcist @ 122 minutes original 132 minutes rerelease
Halloween: Resurrection @ 94 minutes (unless they aren't strict about their run times not going over)
The Entity @ 120 minutes
Here are some possibilities:
Wes Craven Presents: They @ 89 minutes
House of 1,000 Corpses @ 88 minutes
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) @ 83 minutes
13 Ghosts (2001) @ 90 minutes
Soul Survivors @ 90 minutes
Ghost Ship @ 90 minutes

Wow, this was previously posted:

IFC is doing a similar programming stunt on Halloween night, except they are airing several "mystery" movies (not the genre of mystery, but horror films with unrevealed titles) hosted by Tom Savini beginning at 8:00 PM Eastern.

I don't when and from where those screen caps were taken, but on the Cinemax Web site, for me, it just reads (at 8:00 PM Eastern Time on Cinemax East on 10/31/03):
"TBA (LAST MINUTE OR GENERIC): 396"
I would say that Ghost Ship does seem a likely presentation.
On a related note (albeit a different channel), the Independent Film Channel has announced their Halloween lineup of indie horror films on their Web site (www.ifctv.com); however, they won’t reveal which movie is playing at which time (although it may be possible to estimate the schedule based on the running times):
Mimic
Cherry Falls
The Last Broadcast
The Stepfather
Angel Heart
Murder by Numbers (a 2001 IFC documentary about serial killers in films)
Tenebrae
