Elliot Smith tribute show - L.A. - Beck & others

ELLIOTT SMITH MEMORIAL/TRIBUTE featuring Beck / Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes) / Grandaddy / Beth Orton / Rilo Kiley / Future Pigeon / AND SPECIAL GUESTS

All artists will be performing Elliott songs. In addition, there will also be a screening of the Elliott documentary 'Strange Parallel' by Steve Hanft.

$20 plus $6 Ticketweb service charge. All proceeds go to the Elliott Smith Foundation for Abused Children.

Bought my ticket already, this will sell out very quickly.

November 3rd at the Henry Fonda Theatre.

"$20 plus $6 Ticketweb service charge." Quick Yahoo search for that, found the show. Darn, I'm good.

So where is the money going? To his family. If he wouldn't have been so selfish he'd be around to support his family. I'm just sick of these people killing themselves and artists having a benefit for them. I'm all for a benefit for someone who didn't take their own life.

Sorry for the rant

Just an observation of your post. People who commit suicide are very often disturbed both emotionally as well as mentally. I wouldn't label a person who commited suicide as being "selfish", but rather suffering in a way that you probably couldn't understand. I find your sentence "If he wouldn't have been so selfish he'd be around to support his family" to be both insensitive and ill-informed. Furthermore, if you're so "sick of people killing themselves and artists having a benefit for them", DON'T contribute any money or attend the memorial concert or buy anything that's associated with Elliot Smith. I'm sure his family and friends wouldn't want your money.

That's the end of my rant AND I'm not sorry for it.

Am I mistaken that the money is going to abused children?

Thank you for writing this, so I didn't have to. It is so frustrating to me that people think of suicide as something done by the selfish or the weak when it's almost always something done by the sick and disturbed.

Any fellow DVD Talkers going to be at the memorial show? (I tried to get a ticket, but it sold out within a couple of hours.) Please post your thoughts and observations. TIA

Apparently you didn't read the very first post in the thread, did you? But I'm sure the abused children foundation thanks you for your opinions
