Is there any decent way to unload old books for cash? I have well over 100 old books, that I need to get rid of. A lot of hardcovers, a lot of mainstream stuff, all in good condition. I originally planned on giving them to a place called The Book Trader where my parents live for store credit, but there selection isn't that great, & for books I like to keep I want them to be in very good condition, this place most of the books are really beat up.

Anyway, is there any place, website etc, to unload old books on. I checked out ebay, half.com, I don't really want to use them. What do you guys do with old books? Just give them away?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Are there any used book shops in the area? I know that here in Denver, there are probably 2-3 shops that pay decent money (more for trade) when it comes to books in nice condition that they can sell. In other words, if they are titles that will have appeal to a large audience, they pay decent money.

A used bookstore would probably be your best bet. It's been my experience that a "half-price" used bookstore will generally give 10% of the cover price in cash, and up to 25% in trade. It's not much, but used books don't generally bring a lot of money.

I can't really recommend Ebay, as books don't really seem to sell well. From my experience, unless a book is really collectable, chances are it won't sell. It's definitely a buyer's market.

Books are not hot sellers on eBay nor Half. If you had current and recent bestselling books, Half would be the way to go as you can get 30-50% of the coverprice on hot hardcover books.

You could try listing them on Amazon as a used bookseller, but that wouldn't get rid of them in one fell swoop.

Does it have to be cash? Many public and school libraries will gladly accept donated books in good condition and give you a receipt so you can deduct the value when doing your taxes.
