Lions Gate and Artisan Merger

Breaking news...

Lions Gate Entertainment announced today that it will pay $160 million in cash and assume Artisan debt to create a dominant independent supplier. The deal is expected to close this year.

I don't know what this means for DVD releases or anything yet... just thought I'd post this up.

In terms of DVD releases, this is a good sign. Artisan hasn't released many theatrical films of late (the last two being what: Boat Trip and House of the Dead?) while Lions Gate has had some successes (Cabin Fever did pretty well for them) and some flops in theaters, while also gearing a lot towards straight-to-DVD films.

But does this mean that all future Artisan films will become Lions Gate Films or will they still have the Artisan banner?

Artisan has been doing a decent job with their "Special Edition" DVDs.... yes, they're still few problems here & there but at least they put some efforts in it... ex: Reservoir Dogs: Se not so hot picture but great extras & DTS, so does Young Guns

Lions Gate got some decent titles under their wings... but their disc aren't too hot... maybe they can work together to bring better disc quality that can satisfy fans around the world...

ok, enough day dreaming...

CUE LIONS GATE-ARTISAN MERGER JOKE-OFF! GO!

As long as this means Lions Gate DVDs will have inserts...

Look at it this way - we'll get Terminator 2 and Stargate Signature Series releases!

In their history of ripping off bigger studios' ideas, think of the now-possible crossovers! PUNISHER VS. PATRICK BATEMAN!

It's funny, because I constantly confuse these two studios. Now I won't have that problem.
