Criterion in 2004
the Brits posted this (dvdtimes.com) and since there are many looking forward to Ikuru for example........
from dvdtimes.
"Here's a brief look at some of the titles on Criterion's slate for the upcoming year. Included in the new catalogue insert that accompanies this month's new releases, you can expect Samuel Fuller's Pickup on South Street, Akira Kurosawa's Ikiru, Barbet Schroeder's Maîtresse and Robert Bresson's Diary of a Country Priest early in the new year.
Furthermore, Russ Meyer's Beyond the Valley of the Dolls and Preston Sturges' Unfaithfully Yours will also be released at some stage (thanks to www.cynthiamyers.com and www.prestonsturges.com respectively for news on those two)."
...dont know if this is really news for most of you but still......if this has been posted ....will delete!

The news about the 2004 releases broke ths morning over at the Criterion Collection Forum. It's contained in the catalog insert from their new Tokyo Story release (which streets this coming Tuesday).
Major, major excitement is my only reaction.
Diary of a Country Priest, Rules of the Game, and Ikiru are all among my most wanted DVD titles in Region 1 (as luck would have it, I just purchased & received the R2 Ikiru last week). And Pickup on South Street was a huge surprise (apparently, the first fruit of their new relationship with Fox). [EDIT: actually, this is the second Fox title; Naked Lunch will be the first.]
Only Schroeder's Maitresse--which was originally released with an X rating--doesn't terribly excite me.
It's not clear if all five of these titles will be released in January (which would be highly unlikely). Most of us expect a longer delay for Rules of the Game since the new elements were found.
What a way to start the new year!

I think Adrenaline is referring to Yojimbo, Sanjuro and High & Low. Each of these were released before Criterion started releasing anamorphic versions. Hopefully they'll get these re-released someday like they did with Cocteau's Beauty & The Beast.

Yes, he rocks, mightily. I just got Throne of Blood the other day, finally!
Silence is a Johnathan Demme movie, silly. It might have been pretty cool had Akira directed it though... samurai Lecter and ninja special agent Starling?

Good news about Pickup on South Street. I hope they also get House of Bamboo.
The new relationship with Fox is awsome. Word is that Criterion will be doing Kurosawa's 1980 film Kagamusha (one of my favorites), as well as Altman's 3 Women and Preston Sturges' Unfaithfully Yours.
Also expect Eyes w/out a Face and A Woman is a Woman.
