Most Honorable Game Moments

What are some moments in your life of gaming that has shocked you? One I really remember is the start of the Playstation, it started this whole gaming frenzy, and touched all of our hearts.....

that is quite possibly the most inaccurate statement ever...

the only thing the playstation did was make people think that cutting to a movie in the middle of a game makes the gameplay better... we still haven't recovered.

Yeah, this thread is hilarious. I find the release of the N64 quite "dignified." This may be in part because I think 3D platformers are "noble."

Eh, the Playstation had as much crufty in-game-movie cruft as any platform of that period.

What set it apart, though, was that it had a much more richly diverse and mature library than any previous console. Compare it with others of that period - the Nintendo 64, the Sega Genesis I guess - which stuck with relatively run-of-the-mill kidsy cartoons. I think it was the first machine that brought consoles out of the after-school-special market and into the adult mainstream.

Didn't Nintendo start the "gaming frenzy"? I remember playing my old NES more then my Playstation.

Ad far as cutting into a game to show a movie, I saw that in Sega CD before I saw it in Playstation

Similarly, you can go back to Pac-Man, or Space Invaders, or Pong. It's a step-wise process all along.

The PSX was definitely a down turn for gaming in my opinion. It was the beginning of the "style over substance" game design that put more emphasis on graphics and cutscences than on simply making the game fun to play. It was also the time games really started to be market to the "mature" (i.e. horny 13 year old geeks).

Come to think of it, Everything since Yars Revenge has sucked! OMG I've wasted my life playing all these suck systems with sucky games! Where is my atari........

Sony doesn't suck, all the games on the PSX didn't suck, the N64 definitely didn't suck.

But unfortunately the non-sucky games are fewer and further between than they used to be and the number of crappy games is much higher.

Is danol posting under a new user name now?

My most honorable moment in gaming history was saving President Ronnie in Bad Dudes vs. Dragon Ninja. I was honored to have been asked to accept this noble pursuit, and shocked that I was able to bring it to a righteous conclusion.

There have been many shocking and honorable moments in the Tenchu series...

oh please, another thread dominated by the "lets' bash whatever the most popular thing is" game. Please, the PS1 had some of the greatest games in history, and to me is the the best console ever. I know it's not 'cool' on this board to say that, it's more cool to say (with a cheesy Greenwich Village accent) "I'm only into old-school 2-d games, 3-d is so superficial", but that's just looking at the past with rose tinted glasses. There will always be a selection of 2d and 3d games to play, we've been hearing about the death of 2d for years, and this year I got 2 new Castlevanias, and a new Metroid. In the space of a year. There were tons of terrible games for many systems, lets' be honest. If you got a PS1 and bought those terrible games, TS.

Since not even the thread starter knows what's going on here, I'm closing this down.
