Dawn of the Dead - Will there be another release?

After owning Night of the Living Dead, and just recently buying Day of the Dead, I've found that I love the Romero Dead movies...
I want Dawn of the Dead, because I hear from several people that is the best one. I just did a search for it on dvdpricesearch and found a version @ amazon.com for $25 (amazon was only one of two stores that even had the title)...
DPS also listed a Directors Cut, but that wasn't listed at any store as being available. I assume both are out of print?
With the new release of Day of the Dead, do you know of a new Dawn of the Dead release?

BTW, does anyone know if the NotLD color remake is worth getting on DVD? I saw it the other day but have never seen it before. I didn't know how it compared.

Thanks.

If you mean the NotLD from the early 90's, it's great. Pick it up.

I just ebay'ed my Director's Cut, that I bought in 1998, a week ago. The new release has been in the works for some time. I hope it comes through.

Anchor Bay is (hopefully) going to release a big mega-set for "Dawn of the Dead" in February '04. I saw hopefully, because it's forthcoming for quite some time now, and has been unofficially announced only to be pushed back.

This set is supposed to contain no less than three versions of the movie (Theatrical Cut, Director's Cut, and Argento's "Zombi" cut) and a buttload of features.

i thought the zombi cut would be a best buy exclusive, according to an older thread.

not a chance of a best buy exclusive! I hope, and so do thousands of others it just cannot happen, and if it does pigs will fly.

and hey the 90s NOTLD is Tom Savinis love child and is far better than the black and white origanal version, its just a excellent film in its own right!
Tom is a god, and he is in the Remake of Dawn of the Dead, he looks cool!

Savini also played "The Sex Machine" in From Dusk Till Dawn, for those of you who didn't know.

Just a little tidbit.

Tom Savini, man of many faces, and wearing an impressive love gun in Dusk!

fingers crossed the this final Dawn of the Dead dvd set will be a definative version, and include everything needed for a superb set, including the Document of the Dead documentary, please!
That would make it at least 3 - 4 dvds.

I'm not really interested in the Document of the Dead... it spent way too much time on Romero's other films. The segment dedicated to Dawn was too short and really didn't provide any insight into the making of the film.

Unfortunately it won't be the definitive set because it will not contain the 146-156 min. version.

That is the 146-156 min. cut. I have the 146 min. cut on tape and it is pretty bad because it is something like a 4th generation copy VHS tape. The DVD version that I've seen of it looks surprisingly good... good enough that I'd be willing to pay for it...and I just might.

That very question was asked by me in this thread and also answered in this thread.

I think I'm going to Hastings tonight and see if that used copy of it is still there. It was only $7 I think.

NOTLD90 is excellent IMO... The original is my favorite film (of any genre) period. It most certainly is worth $7 (and quite a bit more than that).

My guess is they'll release it to go along with the theatrical release of the remake, which I saw the trailer for last night and proceeded to go ape s//t right there in the theater. It looks like it's going to be good.

It's OOP? I just checked several online retailers and it looks like it's still an active title. Amazon has it in stock as do other sites.

As far as if it's any good, I would say it's just an OK rehash of the original. Kind of unnecessary all around since it really doesn't offer anything new except for a couple of minor twists near the end. Still, if you're a sucker for zombie flicks, it's worth getting I suppose. Plus, the extra features include some of the gore effects Savini had to trim to get an R rating. That alone makes it a worthwhile purchase. I remember seeing this on opening day at Mann's Chinese theater (#2) in Hollywood and I ran into Tony Todd in the men's room - he came to see the audience's reaction. Too bad there were only about 10 people in the audience. The movie bombed big time.

Is this the one I want? I'm assuming it's the only version out there... but with all of the other NotLD versions I want to make sure.
