put that down its widescreen!
I'm sure you meant to say "fullscreen", "pan & scan", or "sh**" instead of "widescreen" considering the context of what you've written.

Not slang, but the main ones are:

Anamorphic
DTS
Dolby Digital
5.1
ES/EX
Seamless branching
RCE
Layer change

My own friends have DVD players but they're not into home cinema like I am, sadly .... and despite all having multi-region players, they only buy R2 (we're in the UK)!!!!!

You don't know because you don't have to worry about it. You'll see what I mean when you read up

I avoid discussion of DVDs with friends. They can't keep up, and I don't feel like spending two minutes explaining a term every time.

Sometimes I'll bitch about "Edge Enhancement" or "Artifacting" and people tend to look at me kinda strange...

Mostly it's me bitching about how somebodies TV is not calibrated properly (ie color, brightness, shaprness set wrong).

I wrote a review of the Indiana Jones Trilogy for my local paper last week. I got a note back from the editors saying "You need to explain what anamorphic means." I guess I've spent too much time here.

Most people I know are foolscreen lovers so every time I talk about widescreen they look at me like I'm an alien from Mars.

Confound your non-DVD-hip acquaintances with .........

"The PQ and 5.1 DTS of the WS platter I just extracted from the hub of that ThinPak Amaray are simply mahhhhhh-velous! No EE at all! A fine hunk o' pixels there! And in the OAR of 2.35:1 as well! Dang near HD! Not a bad 2.0 DD to boot! I wonder if the SE DC LD's PQ looked this G (good )?!"

One term I picked up from the DVDtalk forum is "Joe Six-Pack," used to describe luddites who whine about widescreen DVDs and "those dang black bars."

Joe Six-Pack... That term just makes me laugh! Thank you, DVDtalk!

What's really scary about your piece of jargon is that I understand it perfectly well! I've been here way too long...

Since you guys don't want to share with the rest of the class.

From the DVD Talk FAQ:
Q: What is Regional Coding enhancement(RCE)?
A: It's a digital enhancement added to some Warner Bros and Columbia DVDs to stop region 1 (R1) DVDs from playing on Region-free DVD players.
