DTS w/out DD 5.1

Are there any discs you can think of that come with DTS but no corresponding DD 5.1 track?

I was just wondering if those discs didn't have 5.1 tracks along with the DTS. I thought pretty much all discs had both, if they had DTS at all.

For instance, at DDD, they list the movie VERSUS as having DTS Surround 5.1.

I'm ASSUMING that means that both DTS and DD5.1 are on the disc, but not totally sure.

Sometimes, studios release seperate DTS discs, but thats becoming less common. The only one I can think of that did that was Road to Perdition.

The DTS version of "Waterworld" has no 5.1 Dolby Digital track. I think the original DTS release of "Dances With Wolves" was the same way, but I may be wrong.

Most of the early DTS titles from Universal had DTS 5.1 and Dolby Surround tracks. There were also DD 5.1 versions of these titles released.

Point Break has DTS 5.1 and DD 4.0

The reason you never get a DVD with just DTS is because it's not permitted by the DVD standard. A disk must include a PCM or a DD soundtrack (on Region 2, you have the option of MPEG-2 Audio too). So they get around this by just chucking on a Dolby Surround soundtrack to accompany full bit-rate DTS.

Kooky; I haven't seen that combination on the same disc before.
Does the Dolby track merge the LF & RF for the center channel and drop the LFE?
Think it's DD 4.0 instead of 5.1 due to disc space?

The DD 4.0 is most likely the original sound mix, with the DTS being a newly created upmix.

The original DTS release of Babe only had DPL. I, of course, got the DTS version because the difference between DTS and DD really comes through in the scene where Babe sings Jingle Bells.

Not sure if you are looking for a full list or not but a search at Michael's Movie Mayhem yields these results. I don't know if all of those are DTS only or if some might contain both DTS/DD but it is a start if you are looking to make a list.

In general, DVDs that have a separate DTS release would have full-rate DTS 5.1 and DD 2.0. Now DVDs that have both DTS 5.1 and DD 5.1 on the same disc would have only half-bitrate DTS instead.
