Hopefully this isn't a redundant thread from Other...wasn't exactly sure how to search for it.

http://www2.bostonherald.com/news/local_regional//stab10152003.htm (link obtained from Fark.com)

"They all settled in to watch 'House of the Dead' when Jose Pujols' cell phone started to ring, police said.

'The girl's father asked him to put his phone away and he wouldn't and they got into an argument. (The father) put his feet on the back of (Jose's) chair,' Crowley said.

'Jose pulled out a knife, turned around and stabbed him in the foot.'"

I guess this just goes to show you, you shouldn't do ANYTHING in a movie theater except sit there and watch the flick. Don't even worry about bringing your cell phone in, let alone turning it off. And for pete's sake, whatever you do, don't put your feet on someone's chair back.

What's wrong with people?

Amen. I'm on jose's side.

I think the real question should be Why were they seeing "House of the Dead"?

When I was in Germany they had a trailer before the movie started. Basically there was this guy sitting there talking with a hat on. The people behind him asked if he could be quiet and take his hat off. He didn't. Then someone whips out a chainsaw and cuts his head off.

The whole sudden violence of it caught me by surprise.

Then I looked to my right and there was a guy sitting there with a hat on which looked almost exactly like the one in the film. He saw me glance at him and quickly took of his hat.

So you're in favor of stabbing someone who annoys you?

Don't worry. He's got a million minutes.

BTW, it's pronounced "Kah-rah-tay"!

sure senseless violence is all hip.

actually i miss read the article. I thought the jose's daughter asked the man to put the cell phone away (as in, the father was the one on the cell phone). Not sure why I got that idea. but still both are at fault. guy should have gotten someone.

If I'm doing something that bothers someone else and they do something that annoys me the level of violence can only get stronger. the breaking point would have eventually been met. they should have had someone come in and stop it before it got to that.

Jose was both the one with the phone AND the one who did the stabbing, according to the article.

yes, but the father was the one who was trying to annoy him with the feet kicking. two wrongs don't make a right. if someone is pissing you off with a cell phone just get an usher. let them take the stabbing for you. Like I said, it would have been going back and forth evolving into something down the line. Might as well let a third party handle it.

Golden Rule of the Day: Make sure you bring a sharp knife when people kick the back of your seat.

Yet another reason why I rarely go to the movies nowadays.

What happened to the cellphone ejector seats? When are they being deployed again?

Groucho

No jury in the world would convict this guy.

When I saw Kill Bill last weekend they had a new "Shut the F___ Up" trailer starring the MacKenzie Mooses from Brother Bear. Pretty funny, actually.

Pujols was hauled out of the movie theater lobby and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and marijuana possession.

No way! A potsmoker who was armed and dangerous?

Actually, if he had blazed one in the parking lot before the movie, maybe things would have been different.

It reminds me of this macabre copy on the back of (Paul) Newman's Own Popcorn.

I'll tell you how bad it is. Nobody gets trusted with popcorn – except me. That includes the FBI, the IRS, Tiffany's and concessionaires of any ilk. A good flick arrives on the local screen, you see ol' Newman scuttling across the lobby with a greasy brown paper bag of his homemade popcorn in one hand and – you guessed it – a machete in the other. Who's Who lists a lot of one-armed people in my hometown. They got caught trying to muscle their way into my greasy brown paper bag. The way I feel – they got off easy. They should have been strung up.©
Col. P.L. 'Pops' Newman"

So turn off your cell phone, keep your feet off the seats, and bring your own popcorn ... or machete.

Maybe they should start selling weapons of your choice at the concession stands.

"Would you like a bowie knife w/ that popcorn sir? Or perhaps a glock for some added heat? Hell, we'll even throw in an extra magazine free of charge if you get the jumbo popcorn/coke combo."

Either that, or people just leave their freaking phone in the car or at home. If you're worrying about emergency gossips, stay the @#$% home.

So, Jose's cell phone went off then he stabbed a guy? Jose should be killed Scream 2 Jada Pinkett style.

Piano wire may have worked well for the father in this situation.

I would have agreed if it was the guy annoyed by the cell phone who stabbed Jose

It took me a few reads to figure out what you're describing, but I couldn't help but bust out laughing.

They need to just find a way to block out cell phone signals from movie theaters, then all will be well. If they can do it at out Atlanta Bread, they sure as hell can do it in a movie theater :D

Yup.

The sad thing is some people who hear of this story will blame everything on the violence found in the movies.

Yawn.

F that. I had a guy in the row behind me that had 5 calls before I finally got up. I got the MANAGER. He sent in two security guards, they came in and sat down for about 15 minutes(I assume waiting for the phone to ring), then got up and left when it didn't. Then he proceeded to have 3 more before the movie was over, AFTER the cops left. I guess that they just can't trust a customer that is there every other week since they opened 10 years ago. If the manager won't do anything, then why the hell would a 16 year old $5 an hour usher do anything?

3 things I'm constantly yelling in theaters:

"Take your ****ing phone call outside, thanks."

"Shut the **** up with your screen specific commentary, thanks."

"Either smother your kid or take it outside, thanks."

I'd like to add one because of a recent experience:

"Take your ****ing feet off the back of the seat and put your shoes back on ...it smells like death in here, thanks."

So a new one about the theater.. not about patrons.

How hypocritical is it to run the piracy screener with the Set Painter yet the theater has no problems with cutting out the end credits to my screening of Kill Bill? Written & Directed by QT then houselights come up and that's that?

Last Monday at a matinee screening of Kill Bill there was a guy in biker apparel that started snoring during the opening scene. He woke up after a couple minutes then fell back asleep. Finally, during the hospital scene a guy screamed "WAKE UP, MAN! GO SLEEP SOMEWHERE ELSE!" and then another guy immediately piped in, "ARE YOU DRUNK OR SOMETHING?" The biker guy said "I'll be alright" and stayed awake for the rest of the movie.

The exchange had me laughing for 10 minutes straight. There were only about 10 people in the theater. Luckily, it was my second viewing, or I would have been pissed.

Well, for one thing, the amount of 16-year-old ushers, ou can count on two hands. "We strongly enforce the ratings policy", so how would tehy clean up R-rated shows? I mean that.

Also - kicking people out is fun. It's not like we avoid it. I've been kicking kids, commentators and cell-talkers out all weekend. Never gets old. People are dumb and never learn.

One time, i saw this hispanic kid bump this oriental kid. It was clearly no mistake and the hispanic kid had a whole mess of friends. Then the oriental stepped up the spanish kid and demanded an apology and then the spanish kid wanted to fight and so did all of his boys.

Then people started to through popcorn at the spanish kid and said in a big shout "apologize, apologize, apologize"

It was great. the spanish kid looked red and left with his boys.
