Good Sites For New Music?

I go to Pitchforkmedia.com a lot, but I was wondering if any of you had any suggestions for other music forums, review sites, etc. that could turn me on to new (doesn't HAVE to be indie) music. Thanks!

You could try iRATE Radio. It is released under the GNU General Public License, so it is free.

Essentially what it is is a program that automatically downloads mp3s (from a list of about 46,000) that have been put up for download by bands. It is sort of hit and miss, but with each song, you rate it from 0-10, and then the program attempts to match up high rated songs with the high rated songs of other users to download songs it thinks you would like.

The program is still rather barebones, but it is fully functional. It is good if you just want to here new music without having to search around, and there is actually some really great quality stuff out there.

I've been using it for a couple weeks now, and on my 28.8 modem connection I have already downloaded 384 songs = 1.5GB. All of which are legal.

It probably isn't what you are looking for, but it is cool nonetheless.

It's a CD store in NYC, but they have a great new release review section, updated weekly. Sign up for their mailing list too.

Epitonic.com - A very good MP3 site; mostly indie and semi-indie artists, as well as uber-indie artists. I've gotten into a good amount of bands via this site.

Insound.com - An awesome online record store that I've found myself ordering from almost weekly! Great selection of CD's and vinyl. They also have a very comprehensive MP3 section; pretty good for listening to music by bands that you read so much about, but have never heard any songs by. The also have a good forum section. Highly recommended!

A couple of music info sites w/ fora that may be of interest...

http://www.altcountrytab.com -- Focuses mostly on "alt-country" music, natch -- forum, user reviewers, and guitar tablatures, if that's your thing.

http://www.soundopinions.net -- General music, though b/c it's based in Chicago, it tends to have more of a focus on Wilco than you might expect. Not that that's a bad thing... Good forum.

There are others that I'm sure will be suggested -- these just happen to be a couple that match reasonably closely to my personal tastes in music. Neither of them have much (if any) streaming music or MP3s.

And you may want to do a search and see what pops up as this question has been asked in the past.
