So what do you guys think of this album? I only got a chance to listen to it all the way through once but so far I think it's pretty good.

As a fan of old school/real punk rock, I'm always wary of media friendly, major label "punk" bands but I had heard one of their songs and decided to give the album a try since it was only 9 bucks. I would reccomend it as it's not your average radio punk band for sure.

Anyone else heard the album? Whataya think?

Its awesome, maybe even better than the first. It has a more polished sound than the first and every track kicks ass

I bought Coral Fang and I think it's terrific. You shouldn't even call these guys a punk band anymore since they already denounced their punk roots in several magazine interviews after they signed with a major record label. This album is proof. It doesnt sound a thing like their previous two albums. Not better, not worse, just different and still great! Too bad I saw them twice live and both times they really sucked. Ill stick with the CDs from now on.

If there's anything like City of Angels on there, I know I'll like it. That's my favorite song by them.

Didn't she (Brodie) dump punk when she dumped Tim Armstrong (Rancid)? :)

I've liked what I heard, but I agree that it's a new sound.

Saw them at Lollapalooza and just now picked up Coral Fang. I've listened to it three times or so and really like it. I can't compare it to their first two cds as I haven't picked them up yet.

I'd consider them punk still, as I call a band punk by the type of music, not whether they're popular, on a major label, etc.

It's also unclear whether they consider themselves punk or not.

On their website you have this statement in June which sounds like they denounced their punk "status."

hello kids. so this is the last week of recording this record. it went by really fast, in this time here we have done the following.
1.) sold out.
2.) did so much heroine it forced us to sell out.
3.) signed to a major label, and had them buy us houses in Beverly hills
4.) ate bar-b-q.
5.) we all turned gay, then straight, then gay again..
6.) we made a record that sounds like a mix between o-town and buckethead.
7.) worried about our punk cred.
8.) bummed for change to boost our punk cred
9.) denounced punk
10.) remembered that punk actually still is cool......as long as it only consists of black flag, the ramones, the circle jerks, tsol, the stooges, devo, and credence. and has nothing to do with clothes, or bumming change, or gossip.
thanks. -ANDY

But then in the Bio they have:

The Distillers are purely, a punk band. It’s that simple. The new album Coral Fang is the culmination of the perfect chemistry between four top notch musicians who hate each other.

Which seems like it's been updated after the June post as it mentions Coral Fang which came out last fall.

The first thing is joking, the bio isn't.

But again, who cares?

They more punk than poppy crap like Rancid that gets labled punk IMO.

It seems the punk label gets applied more to the type of people in a band and their level of success rather than the type of music which is absurd IMO. Another unfortunate side effect of music videos I guess.
